Well they didn't know my age until after I was hired and I have a
friend who's working there and she's in her 50's so I honestly think
the age theory is not an issue. Being qualified for a job doesn't
always mean you're going to get it.

Also, to address the age question, I have nothing to refute the "magic 40" theory as I've come to think of it. I'm darned close to 40, but I never put dates on my resume at all (not even college graduation dates). Maybe that's why I slipped on by.

I talked to over a dozen different G workers I know, and they all received that note. G often sends blanket reminder and nag notes. Unless it specifically has your name at the top, it is not directed at you.

As for the age, I am shocked it is even being brought up for discussion. Age has nothing to do with being chosen towork for G. I knowmany very qualified people of all ages who are being passed over. Not being hired at this point has more to do with too many people applying for too few positions than with age discrimination.

Oh, and remember that G has a new rule that only one person per household can work for them in a particular language.

Thanks so much. Now my heart can resume its normal beats-per-minute rhythm.

I think the idea that G has a "conspiracy" was meant to be a joke...us google rejects just want to b!tch and moan a little bit...

But I am not over 40 so I don't know what their ordeal is...maybe they won't hire business owners because we are so set in our</span> ways of getting things done. That has happened to many people I know.

going back. There are a large number of people doing that these
days, so I think it would be impossible to derive someone's age by
college graduation date and be very accurate.

But if you were really worried about your age being a factor, you
should consider a new format for your resume that doesn't indicate
dates.

I'm not meaning to be ugly or start a fight. I'm just tired of
hearing people make excuses for why they weren't selected always
blaming it on the institution doing the selecting. I've been
rejected lots, and I chalk it up to the fact that either I wasn't a
good fit for the job or they didn't see the skills they needed to see,
which also falls back to me and my presentation of my skills.
Hi Kerrinne. When I made the post about being too old it was partly in
jest. But I do think there might be something to it. I can't prove it,
though, and honestly it's not a big enough deal to me to pursue it.

But as far as my post I was just being silly. Sometimes I'll do that. I
just wanted you guys to know I wasn't "making excuses", and I'm not
bitter. I had the corporate career already, for over 20 years,
and left by choice because the stress was making me an old woman before
my time. That was 6 yrs. ago... and I'm ok.

And even though there are many different ways to do a resume, I can't
see doing one without making any reference to dates whatsoever.
To me, that looks like you're deliberately trying to hide something and
that calls the rest of the information into question.

You know what? I made a completely wrong statement. I pulled up my resume and refreshed my memory. I do use dates on my work history but not on my college graduation dates. I think because I only use the most recent jobs and my resume only goes back about 10 years it doesn't give the impression that I have been out there "forever." At any rate, I've had great luck getting hired with this format so I'm gonna stick with it until it doesn't work anymore. Then I will hire RESUMEASAP.

I need to start actually thinking before I post.
