Well, I was going to apply to this position UNTIL I saw all of these posts! Wow! What a turn off!
Not to mention that YES, there IS a HUGE difference between working on an employee and an IC status. I have been working from home since 1992 and I currently work on an employee status with a company now and I also work on an IC status (not with the company that I work for as an employee), but in addition to that one.You should NOT just go around utilizing the term "employee" and take it lightly, as it could get you into some REAL trouble! Take it from me, I have already gotten one employer in major trouble (with my hubby's job that he had), due to this very thing and now the labor board, along with others are thoroughly checking them out and keeping their eyes on them.

Hello,
Thank you for your kind words. The position is still open. We are seeking certain types of traits understanding this is a progressing company and being involved in the process for a career minded individual. Please email jobs@osicodesinc.com or contact 917-338-7663 We have never had an issue with pay structure and we take care of full-time"employees". Most work at home jobs they prefer to receive the full funds without taxes taken out as they can arrange their final taxes at the end of year based on home office expenses. This is not all that bad structure and I'm sure most of you are aware of this. But again, part of organization process is working with accountant to offer both payroll and 1099 structure to account for the team mate (we do look out for team mates believe it or not - Brook can confirm that actually). I just wanted to chime in real quick with something. After I signed off last night I went to look at his companies site on a hunch. If it is the same site as his name and email would indicate then this product is not something that he himself or his company even own. It's a service (rather two services) that is utilized by many many businesses across the country. He is not the only business with this. I also hope their are more websites that then one his email address would indicate because the site itself is bare bones at best. The company contacts are listed as some with first and last name and some with just first names. They say they have been in business for 10 years on his bare bones site yet the web presence would not indicate that especially for the product his company is marketing and who they are marketing too. I don't think it was a lack of training to know the answers. I think there simply aren't any answers that any CSR could give. The answers are likely made up on the fly and that is what they are looking for. They want a CSR that can talk sugar and sweet to the customer while they feed them 10% truth and 90% filler.
I want to say this to anyone reading this post. We all are members of this forum. We all appreciate it when new businesses come here and post ads. We appreciate it when our own forum members post leads. What we do not appreciate is when those leads turn out to be what my grandmother used to call snake oil pitches. Ladies (and gentlemen) when you see an ad here on the forum research it. If they give their email address to contact them look at the end tag and check for that website. See what the company is about, what products and services they have then do a google search. The quickest way to find out about a companies back story with the work at home community is to do the following searches. In Google type the name of the company or company site in quotations. Put a plus sign and then in quotations type a phrase like "sucks", "doesn't pay", "didn't get paid", "no training", etc. All of the bad things you can think of to say about a company or would be said about a company. You will be surprised what pops up. If nothing pops up and you can't find anything at all on the company then come back to wahm and do a search here. If no one has heard of it then start asking a lot of questions in your initial email. If the company is not willing to answer questions as part of a hiring process then walk away. If they use terms like employee ask if you will receive a W2 or a 1099. If they say 1099 walk away because that is not an employee that is a contractor. Ask them if they offer direct deposit or PayPal. That may sound like a silly question but very few work at home companies use paper check payments anymore. If it is freelance and you haven't found any info on them but still want to move forward then create an odesk or elance account. Tell them that your freelance work goes through those sites and give them your link so they can hire you through the secured systems used there. If it helps tell them you will allow them to remove the fees for your services (because they charge a small amount on top of the fee you request for the job) from your final payment. If they aren't willing to answer questions or do any of that walk away. Don't forget to ask about training, paid training, and how long training is. Ask if there is a nesting period where you have someone with you for the first day to week. These are all things that legit companies will answer and do. If they don't then walk away. Ask them in private email to ensure you have a paper trail of what was said should a problem arise. Protect yourself. You are a freelance contractor. Working at home is your business. Protect it like a business. |

OSICodes, it is imperative you know the difference between an employee and an idependent contractor (1099 worker). Companies have gotten into a lot of legal trouble for classifying people as 1099 workers but treating them like employees.
You and your legal advisor(s) seriously need to read and understand the information on the differences. Click the following link for info: http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/...=99921,00.html Quote:

Hello,
After speaking with our accountant, we are now offering a 1040 and 1099 option for this position. We have restructured our hiring methods and would like to invite career minded individuals to apply for the following position: Job position: Online Customer Support Representative Position Details: * Online Support Hours: M-F 8:30am-5:30pm EST (hours can be adjusted to fit your timezone) * $1700/month base + commission (average $300-$600/month) * Customer Support via Online Chat and Email * Various operational assistance such as proofreading, writing documents and research * Sales oriented with new client acquisition and existing client retention (via chat and email) * Proactive client support with follow-up emails * Career minded with long term and company growth * If you are seeking a position where you simply answer visitor questions, this position may not be the best for you. We are very particular in customer service skills and involvement with visitors and clients. This position is a career. You are the front-line representative and the initial image of the company. * Payment structure can be of 1040 or 1099 based on your preference. PLEASE NOTE: Please do not apply for other people. We have dealt with situations where people apply but in reality the person working is a contractor of the person who applied for the position. If you are running this type of setup and to save time for everyone, do not apply for others. We are seeking a career minded individual who devotes full-time for this position and not "another side gig". We are a growing company with high potential of salary and benefit increases in the future. We are looking for a candidate who is willing to grow with the company and eager to contribute to the growth process. Please email your current resume to jobs@osicodesinc.com or contact 917-338-7663 We have dealt with numbers of situations during our hiring efforts and to save time for everyone, we request the person who actually will be working with us to be the actual applicant on the resume and conversing on the phone. [edit] There will be a week of training period. This is a career opportunity with a growing company and should not be treated as additional "gig". We would like for you to be a part of the growth process with full dedication with areas that the company needs assistance. Thank you, Nate OSI Codes Inc.
