I was wondering how many of the companies hire actually employees instead of contractors. It might be silly, but being an independent contractor terrifies me as far as taxes are concerned. I've done it once a long time ago, and it made it difficult come tax time. Also, having some kind of benefits would be nice. I work outside the home right now, but I'm pregnant and my job is very physical, so I know that I'm not going to be able to continue doing it much longer, and will most likely have to take a leave of absence. I don't want to put the family in a financial dilemma, and I'm trying to get my ducks in a row. Any suggestions/advice would be appreciated.

Here is a list of companies that hire employees versus independent contractors. However, not all of the ones listed provide benefits to their employees. In my years of research there are not many companies that will offer benefits to those of us who choose to work from home whether we are employees or contractors. Hope this list helps. Also if anyone knows of others out there that are not on this list please feel free to add them and I will make this list a sticky since it is asked frequently.

Yeah, too bad TeleTech@Home is not available in all countries. I was looking forward to that but they didn't have the option. They have on location call centers though.

That's a good list of jobs, but in this economy you may need to expand your options a little. So I would urge you not to necessarily rule out independent contractor positions.
When you're an independent contractor you can deduct more business expenses than when you're an employee. And many tax return prep software programs can help make it easy. They will even calculate estimated quarterly taxes for you. Or you may just want to hire someone to do your taxes. But if it means find a job these days, it may be worth the extra expense.
