Default Gender Issue?

Sheesh, I guess this comes under the heading "You can't make everybody happy no matter what you do." I won't pay for an article that's really bad, I'm sorry if someone finds this unreasonable. So don't send me anything, it's really OK.

On a much more positive note, some of you sent back the articles in record time. Wow, that was FAST! Go WAHMS!!

TomG.

PS - The complainer was a guy, so not even a WAHM All the women are 100% positive so far!
Men need work too, in many cases more than women.

This is not what this person put in his email. He said "If I like the article, you get $5 for your effort and we'll let you know if you are one of the people that we will hire." Not exactly the same as, "If I like the article, I'll send you $5 regardless of whether you get the position or not."

I don't want to seem too picky here, but there is some slippery wording here and I don't think people desperate for work need to be lead down the path of deceit and trickery.

Woman or not, this is not too much to ask is it?

There is a lot packed in the phrase, "If I like the article."

This person could be getting all the freebies they want and noone would ever know. Where is the accountability in this process?

My advice, find someone honest and accountable

Default To his credit...

He did send $5 to my paypal account. Needless to say I did not get offered the job. Big surprise.

I actually thought it was very generous of him to offer to pay $5 because I have applied to many writing jobs where they want a original sample a lot more time consuming than this one and do not offer to pay for it. If you consider how many people are probably applying for this I think it is pretty generous to pay $5 per article.

I can hardly believe this response. You created another userID just to bash me and you question MY integrity? Nice. I have NOTHING to hide. I will not out you, but wow.

TomG.

PS - I took the time to critique the article to boot...

I certainly don't question your generosity. I would never expect a five dollar offer just to write an application article.

Thanks for the critique, it was very helpful.

It is very convenient for you to make claims of great integrity after the fact isn't it?

I did not create this userid just to bash you. As it turned out, I saw the opportunity and tried to login earlier with my original userid. I had forgotten my login credentials and requested a password change. It was taking a long time and when I finally got an email, I had to click the link just to get sent ANOTHER authorization link, which took more time. I decided it was quicker just to create another userid. But yeah, after I created the new one, since it contained personal info. I decided not to use it. My questioning of your integrity still stands. You are right, five dollars is not enough money to get bent out of shape over, but it speaks to a person's integrity if you did not put the conditions there in the beginning.

I will send your five dollars back.

While I empathize with CNJ's reaction to Tom's phrasing, it is quite true that most writing jobs don't pay anything at all for a unique sample of work, even if the do like it.

I will say that my empathy went out the window with the above statement though. Everyone needs work, men and women alike. Everyone has bills, obligations and expenses.

To say one sex needs work more than another is beyond simple minded.

If you ask me, these jobs mean more to:
-Single parents who can't afford child care to work outside the home,
-Single income families that are struggling because one parent can't work due to child care costs,
-Those who are disabled and unable to work outside the home,
-Individuals who can't find work in their town because they are in school and being turned away because of schedule conflicts.

None of that has any gender requirements though now does it...

I typically don't get heated when it comes to forums, but seriously - wow.

Thumbs down

I agree. I've been trying to say since last summer that this behavior toward employers is going to have to change. If you don't like a job or the pay, fine, don't appy for it and waste everyone's time. If employers continue to get treated with this kind of disrespect, there won't be anymore on these boards.

Seriously, think about it. I've seen too many employers getting bashed on these boards. Don't ruin good opportunities for everyone else!
