I was talking to an employer that said people that action words are actually being over used now a days. Any suggestions on how to get through that so your resume looks completely different or would you disagree?

Default Great Tips

I have many friends that are out of work but they don't want to work a home based business. I am really supportive in them wanting to work for someone. I will be sharing this information with them since they have been complaining about their jobs since last year.

I agree with most things written already. However I personally would reach for a clear cut, neat looking, honest resume. Not too long or flashy. The icing on the cake will be the covering letter communication. It needn't sound B2B. Try H2H (human-to-human)!

Another important point to remember is to make sure that you can live upto your resume. Some employers are so impressed with the resume (made by professionals & resume experts) but when they meet the candidate they are disappointed. Not good.

Nowadays not only is it important to have a perfectly spell checked resume, but it has to be short enough with your most attractive accomplishments. I've seen friends, family, and people I've interviewed add things such as

Current position: unemployed or listing a million and one things to make resume reviewers eyes fall out from exhaustion.

Lengthy resumes end up in the trash can unless you're applying for something like a federal or state position. Recently I submitted a resume to NASA for their astronaut program (Yes I'd love to be an astronaut some day), and it was very lengthy because they required a lot of information and background stuff. That's one rare exception where they want a long resume, but keep it short, nicely bulleted, and include any social media info that is specifically made for employment purposes such as Linkedin or a Facebook Resume Page. Leave your private social media info out.

Default when writing a resume

Many people tend not max on their skill levels. I think for your resume to stand out you need to show that employer what you are capable of doing they love numbers in your resume and percentages tell how you saved the company ex amount of money by impletmenting new cost saving measures. They want to know how you will be an asset to that company so many people miss this I write resumes for family and friends and have gone to some classes on how to make your resume to stand out. Key thing to zero in on:
cost reduction
Time savings
streamlining production
Budgets
just some ideas for you all to think about....

The job interview is also important as a good resume that is well written and factual. Knowing what to say to an employer or interviewer can help a lot!

I second that recommendation on interviewing. With it being so hard just to get as far as an interview you can't drop the ball it when it comes. Thats when you have to shine, especially since interviews are now often conducted by phone or on the web. The best advice I've heard given on interviews is to be ready with a list of questions--the deeper they are the better. Employers aren't always well prepared for interviews and you can help them out by asking questions. That also allows you to control the interview and appear like a strong candidate. Of course they have to be intelligent questions related to the work that needs to be done, not about pay and benefits and hours.
