Question Thank you Button

Do you think that there could be a thank you button added similar to wplh? I think it would be nice to thank people for posting jobs etc.

Thanks

Carlene

Hi Carlene,

I think that is something that was looked at before, not sure if we will receive that change soon or not. We'll make sure it is looked at again.

Users can at this time rate threads. There is a drop down link in the upper right-hand side of the post.

Carlene - We prefer that if people want to say thank you, that they actually do so. It's less impersonal than a "Facebook Like" type of button. Additionally, our developers don't like to develop customizations like these that don't necessarily translate well with site updates. I think taking a few seconds to type "thank you" shouldn't be too much to ask of people. Thanks!

What about a reputation system? It would be nice to have some way to easily see if someone has contributed useful content in the past when in doubt of whether their post is spam or useful.

Well, on other forums I administer, I haven't seen reputation systems ever been used for what they're intended for. Basically they've always degenerated into combatants using it to degrade each other. Also, a reputation system is complex to administer, as there are all sorts of back end settings that need to be set, and then mods have to constantly deal with "so-and-so marked down my reputation" inquiries.

It's not worth the trouble - I would rather that commentary on content be in text and plain view for everyone to see. People should just say what they mean.

I was thinking of something like Slickdeals.net has. You can only give rep points, not take them away. For every rep you give, you enter a comment that tells the user why you repped them or you can just say "thanks".

Hm, that's interesting. It's possible to disable negative reputation on the back end, so that people can only leave positive reputation. It's a little bit of work, though. Since I'm very wary of user reputation systems, I'll wait for more feedback on this topic to see if there's demand from other members. Thanks!
