Default General questions: help appreciated

Can someone tell me how Quicktate works? I can't sit for long periods, due to fibromyalgia and another condition. Do I need to constantly be sitting down, or are they quick messages to be typed occasionally (I think I once heard it works that way(?)).

Also, on the average, can someone share about how much they pay?

Do I need to know how to download, etc? I am just not a computer person, but can do the basics. When it comes to software, etc., I have to admit that though I've tried, I just don't get it!

Thanks in advance for any info.

I haven't worked for Quicktate on a regular basis for a while now since I was hired to iDictate, but did transcribe for Quicktate for at least a year, so I can offer you my experiences (though some things may have changed, so feel free to chime in anyone who works for them regularly now).

They are quick messages, but the frequency depends on when you choose to work. When I was working, there was usually steady work during business, and especially lunch, hours and generally less frequent during evening hours, but once a message is sent to you to transcribe, you only have 1 min 30 seconds to begin typing or you will time out and the message will be sent to someone else. So (while I haven't tried it), it might not be worth your time and the hassle if you need to get up and down from the computer a lot as you might need to relogin again and again and the people who transcribe more messages at a faster rate are automatically sent more messages to transcribe (therefore you might not be sent very many, or any at all, if you aren't able to transcribe very much). However, if you want to work 10 minutes here and there, it's definitely possible; you just won't make as much money as someone who sits there for a couple hours transcribing message after message. Still might be better than nothing though, depending on your situation.

As long as you have the Mozilla Firefox browser, there is no downloading necessary - except maybe Quicktime. I already had everything I needed in order to start working for them. If you're asking whether you need to download every message or on a regular basis, the answer is no. The messages are sent through their website.

I hope this helps!

I agree with Lauren; I work for iDictate now, but when I was working with Quicktate I found there was more work at a certain time of the day. You have to just feel it out and learn what you're capable of doing. It's not really that hard, and if you work in Quicktate long enough and they like your work you'll get a offer to go over to iDictate where the work is a lot simpler to work around you illness.
