Default Question of the Week 2012: Saving for Anything in Particular?

I know that many here are writing to pay bills, but that some are writing for "fun money." I'm half-and-half... a set amount of what I make goes towards bills, but the rest, we use for savings or whatever else we want.

Right now, I'm saving up to take all four of us on a 4-6 week trip to Europe next summer (2013)! Sixteen months... I am determined to do this!!

Do you have a big or small goal that you're working toward?

I have a little girl who is turning 10 this summer, and we've promised all of them a private skate party for their 10th birthdays. So just as soon as I can get our bills out of ICU, I'll be saving toward that. And a Christmas fund--lol!

We save most of my earnings and are hoping to buy a bigger home next year. Our 3 bedroom is getting small and we would love a bigger home especially one that has it's own master suite so we don't have to share the bathroom with the kids

We are adding on to our house to make room for the new addition. Our house is TINY but we can't sell due to complicated reasons. That is, we can't until the end of 2014. Our tax money will cover about half of it... and the I will be saving up to handle the wiring, ductwork, sheetrock, flooring, and paint. And then new furniture to fix up the rest of the house, since most rooms will no longer be used for what they're used for now...and we'll need more to fit the new larger house. We're adding three rooms, so it's more doable than it sounds. Hubby is doing all the work himself, so each step should, in theory, come in at under $1000 after the exterior framing...which taxes are taking care of.

My pay is exclusively for discretionary spending right now. DH & I keep a Google doc of stuff we need/want and then add, delete, and change around as we need to. We need to get a new washer/dryer right now, so those are the big things. The kids will need summer clothes, etc. We've always paid for vacations out of DH's pay, but we're also considering a couple of big trips that I'll probably save to cover. I want to go to Europe but want to wait until the kids are a bit older and will remember it. We live on the East Coast, and I also want to do a West Coast trip/tour. We've always done super-frugal trips, and I really, really want to have enough to eat out, stay wherever we want, etc.

I'm trying to devise a way to earn and save enough money to get my car back on the road. Long-term, I want to pay off my credit cards once and for all.

First is to finish off the bedrooms in the basement so our kids can stop sharing bedrooms. Second is a ski vacation in Colorado for Christmas 2012.

My son's graduating high school this year. He's gotten straight A's throughout his schooling and said he was hoping we'd bypass a party and rent a house in Boston for a full week instead. So I've been saving as much as I can to make sure that happens. Looks like we'll be renting a house on Cape Cod instead though, we found the perfect house on the beach for a price I can afford.

Wow! You all have great goals. ErinHill 226 that is fabulous! Go hubby! You will be thankful that you've done it yourselves without a ridiculous amount from contractors. Icon, I hear you. My car is paid for. I just put in a brand new catalytic converter a couple months ago. I know the feeling of wanting it running and reliable. My daughter is turning 9 in May.I am also saving for the bf to come visit the kiddos and I. I also want to start early for christmas. Yay for being accepted to Content Authority. I am writing my beginning articles and so far so good.
