I'm planning to bring a pug home this x-mas but I have been told it requires so much care and attention and one have to shell out a huge amount every month on its expenses like food, vaccination and other pet-care products. Can anyone help me on this?Is it really true or pug can be raised like other breeds(Pomeranian)...

I have 2 puggles (pug and beagle mixed) They are the same maintenance wise as any other dogs. They do shed a lot and have ear problems but thats about it..
Good luck! Pugs are cute! ~Amy

I like fatty pugs and I know that extra weight is not good for a dog, but I do like them in such condition. And they are really cute and smart dogs in deed.

I was just wondering could the ear problems come from the beagle side? I have a beagle and she has ear problems all the time. We spend more time at the vet with her than we do all our other animals put together.

I have a pug and she does have yeast on her skin problems but the vet today said that is probably a food allergy that is causing the reaction. So I will be looking to change her foods.
I will say other than that and the fast growing claws, she is one of the easiest to care for dogs that I have ever owned. She loves everyone and every animal. She doesn't bark alot. She has never bit anyone in her whole life. I get compliments all the time when I have people over. She will initially go up to them and wag her tail and sniff their feet a bit but then she goes back to favorite spot and lays down and just enjoys watching everyone. She doesn't beg (of course, we don't feed her off the table or anything). She actually isn't even fat. . We crate trained her for house breaking for a bit and she didn't like it at first but came to be fine with it and now when we take her to vet or something in it she gets in the crate just by putting it down and motioning to get in. I will say that the first two years were a bit rough but I think that is true with any puppy. One thing about a pug (or at least my pug) is that wherever YOU are she wants to be. So if you sit down, she is coming to sit beside you. It took me a bit to get used to it. But she is so smart that if I have just had it and want some space, I just point and say "go to your chair" (she has a favorite chair that has pretty much been designated to her Pug puppies can be a bit stubborn but if you just get through those first years, they are wonderful pets.Probably the issues that I would say she has is that her claws grow very quickly. We trim them about once week to keep them from getting too long. Hers grow a bit weird so we have to make sure they stay short. They do shed and their hair is fairly course. They are always so cute and their faces have so many expressions. You can read them easily. My baby is about 7 years old now. We have had several other animals added to our mix and she has loved each one and adjusted well to them all. HTH!
