Default My cat is peeing in the house!

I have two cats, 6 and 5. The 5 yr old, has no litter box problems. The 6 yr old...oy vey...she's always been an issue! She has a very bad habit of going in the tub. Yes...I know it's a gross, but at least it's an area that's easily cleanable.

Two months ago I moved. The first 2 or 3 weeks were fine. But recently, she has taken to peeing all over the place. In her food bowl, middle of the hallway floor...even on the kitchen counter. EWWWW! Totally...ICK!

Moving is traumatic for them, I'm sure. But since she already has questionable "bathroom habits", is there anything I can do to make her stop this? It's awful!

Been there.

First go to the vet because some infections cause this. Second, and this is a pain, but helps, have at least two litter boxes per cat and maybe an extra for her for good measure on top of that.

We had a female cat who loved the tub. We tried everything to stop her after her infection was cleared up, but we thought maybe the person who rescued her had kept her in a bathtub or the tub is similar to the floors in the cage spaces in shelters. Hard to say.

We would put stuff in the tub to discourage her from jumping in (astro turf-like green prickly outdoor rugs; open umbrellas etc.). Worked for awhile, then the newness wore off and she started peeing again. We ended up having to keep the bathroom doors shut at all times and then she we would go to the basement to use the boxes.

The one problem was that the other cat was a male which of course smells more than she does, so she seemed to always want a clean litter box.

Good luck.

Default Thank You!

I will definitely try that with the boxes. Hadn't even considered an infection...thought it had to do more with moving. I will look into that.

Can you tell me...after you closed the doors to the bathrooms and she started using the box, were you able to start opening the doors again?

Our cat Cooper has a thing with my daughter. She has held them daily since they were kitties and has a bed on her desk. He pees on her bed and just did it the other day when we let him out of the laundry room along with Jasper. He saw Jamie asleep and was acting really weird and all of the sudden Jamie woke up with a wet spot. ERR

No, had to always close the doors. It was just too much of a habit for her to break. Maybe if your boxes are on the same floor of the house you might have better luck with that than I did.

No such luck...my house is 3 stories. Looks like it's closed doors for me! Thanks for your help.

There may not be anything that will stop her. My sisters cat is giving her the same problem. I think sometimes it happens when there is more than one animal fighting for attention, which seems to be her case. You may want to have her tested to see if there is an infection or if she is diabetic. Good luck.

The cat could be a diabete (sp) because I had a cat that started doing doing the #1 all at once. Take to the vet right away.

This happened to my cat too! My dad took like 10 minutes everytime the cat peed and lectured it to do it in the right place. He used to drag it to the litter box and starts speaking ot it.

I see the only way to let your cat go outside the house without any permission.
The cat can't bear it and lets it out because of health problems.
