Does anyone work for them? I was given an aptitude test but have not heard back even after emailing for a status report on my application.

I applied and took the aptitude test as well. Last night I received an email stating that my test was being reviewed and that I need to let my references know they were being contacted by via email so they don't think it's spam. Have you heard anything yet?

No problem. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

If you're interested in other educational jobs, you might want to look into online scoring for ETS. I've been scoring the TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication) for them since October, and although I only get a few shifts here and there, I really like it. Their website is www.ets.org. To view and apply for scoring positions, click on Scoring Opportunities.

UPDATE: I didn't make the cut. Today I received an email informing me that I didn't make the first round of interviews, but that my application would be kept on file. Oh well. I guess it's back to pounding the virtual pavement!

It probably won't make you feel any better, but you aren't missing much. I hated correlating.
I would never again want to do it. I only did one correlating job but it was definitely not for me. I have a much better job now, so keep on looking. There are other, better paying jobs for teachers.

Thanks, Deena. I had a feeling the work would have been tedious, but the extra money wouldn't have hurt. I've been scoring for ETS since October, but I only manage to get a few shifts here and there. I've been trying to get in with Pearson, but they never seem to be hiring. What are some options, other than scoring or tutoring?

I did correlating too and it was greuling. Don't feel too bad. The money was good but it was mind-numbing and time-consuming, and you have to be SO precise. It was a tough job and I had no qualms about walking away.

In terms of other opportunities, I would say to try everything available to you and take what you're offered. I started out doing live online tutoring for $10 per hour and today accepted an offer working in curriculum for almost double that. It has been 3 years. So try EVERYTHING and know that it will take time to work your way up to something that you love!

Thanks, Jess. Congratulations on the new offer!

When I taught in the regular classroom, I was also in charge of curriculum for the Language Arts compensatory education program. However, I moved from New Jersey to Arizona a few years ago, and I haven't had any luck with landing a teaching position with the exception of working for an online high school for two years. It was a great job for a while, but it started to consume too much of my time.

Online tutoring seems like a great gig for most, but I'm not too keen on it after my experience with online teaching. So for now, I'll just keep plugging along with scoring while I search for other options. I recently started typing for Quicktate for some extra pocket money, and I just took a test for a title proofer position with DS.

Keep your fingers crossed for me!

This is what they look for in the interview

How many flying hours does this person have?
What aircraft have they flown?
How does their personality fit in with our airline?

Having a degree is a bonus but it won't get you the job. There is a pilot shortage in the world at the moment so you have a good chance of getting a job without a degree but if have the time to get one. Go ahead and do it incase your aviation career falls apart you will have something else to fall back on!
