Default Use Ebay for the tool that it is

Use it for research. See what is selling. Check completed Auctions for final sale price including shipping.
Spend time finding suppliers, if you find something you'd like to sell, buy one for yourself first.
check the quality of the item. Then spend time trying to find a better source and price.
Don't limit yourself to Ebay. If it's hot on Ebay, maybe it would be hot to sell at your local flea market.

As an example, I tried a new product (splat toy) last July. They were selling on Ebay for $5.95 plus shipping. I ordered one to try out and everybody I showed them to wanted one. I then spent a couple of weeks on the internet, on the phone, reading trade papers, etc. for a source at wholesale
Got the price down to 80 cents each and good quality.
Bottom line? sold 2 on ebay and over 200 dozen locally Oct - Dec for $4 each and ran out 2 weeks before Christmas.
When Snuggies first came out, no stores carried them - could you have sold them at a flea market
if you could have purchased them for half of the TV advertised price?
Ebay is not the only place to sell, fees are high, profits are slim
I prefer face to face sales....you hand me $$$ I hand you product
good luck
