KSMomof2-
Many companies offer you the ability to check for shops right on their site. ONce you have a login and password, you will need to check often to see if any shops have been posted. Others may send shop offers via email.

If there are grocery stores, convenience stores, gas stations, restaurants, etc in the area you wish to shop, most likely the area is being shopped. Again the key is to sign up with as many companies as you can. The more you work for, the better chance of finding available shops in your area.

Hope that helps!

Wow, thanks for all of the information. I get emails all of the time, and it always sounds so interesting, but I have always wondered if it is a scam. I know that one offer was. It was one of those things where they would send me a check for $1,500, wanted me to spend 300 at wal-mart, and send them back the 1200.

Guess that I have been leery ever since about getting involved with this, although I have suspected that there are legitimate sites for the job. Now I have all of the advice and experience at my fingertips. Thanks

Thanks for all the fantastic information. I just got laid off from a job in I.T. and am looking to try something different to fill my time while I collect my severance for the next 18 months. I have always wondered about mystery shopping and wondered how to get into it. I used to work in retail and have been shopped and wondered how it worked. I am definetly going to check out the free sights that have been mentioned.

Thanks

I'm interested in looking into mystery shopping, but is mystery shopping something I could do on weekends or do I need to be available on week days aswell?

Check cashing is known fraud...please read the Federal Trade Commissions article:
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre40.shtm

Just check out the MSPA and Volition and you can find out the legitimate places to shop. Always check out a company (get feedback from others, search the internet, before you provide any personal information.

Yes, most shops can be done anytime, not just during the week. It really does depend on the shop though, there may be specific hours in which to shop. Some have set dates/times, while others may have a range of several days in which you can complete the shop whenever it is convenient for you. Hope that helps.
