Question Kind of a dumb question, but.....

why exactly are we keying these snippets, anyway?! Something I've always wondered, hope I shouldn't already know.

It's basically info from tax forms, when individuals or corporations file their taxes each quarter. They supply only snippets of info to us to protect the identity of the persons, or corporations submitting the info. A lot of companies like to have their paper records converted to an electronic format for storage purposes. It's more convenient than keeping paper records and easier to locate the info. KFC doesn't specifically tell you this, but if you do some research online, you can find out this info.

Plus I've done similar work to this in a B&M job, so I am familiar with keying info from scanned paper documents to create electronic files, so the company can eventually get rid of the paper documents. They still usually will keep the paper docs for a few years before destroying them entirely.

Hope that answers your question.

Okay, that does make sense. So they have the forms all split up into those snippets and they are all being converted to electronic documents, little bits at a time?

Something like that. Somehow they have the snippets coded, so that when a record is searched for within a file, all the snippets come together in the same place to create the whole document. Technology's a wonderful thing. LOL!!!!!!!!!!
