Default I don't know where to start on this WEBSITE!!

Hello WAHM Community,

My name is Carla. I am new to this website. For the last two days I feel like I have not been productive enough using this website. I find myself spending a lot of time searching for jobs and business opportunites, but I just don't know where to begin. The website is flooded with information. I REALLY NEED SOMEONE TO GUIDE ME. I have learned of this website from the news reports (KABC) in Los Angeles. I need to work from home now!!! I currently work in the Health Care field. I work 12hours a day about four or five times a week. I am a single mom of eight, it is very diffcult to juggle all that I have too. I have raised all my daughters sucessfully, but now I have to raise the last four of my children (all boys). My boys have been a handful for me. I have one that is giving me such a diffcult time in school. I was thinking about sending him to a miltary school, but I don't have military school money. I really want to get out of the rat race of life and stay home with them. I really feel the pain of the recession here in California. I work in a Cancer unit, very depressing. I love my patients don't get me wrong, but when they can't afford to get the treatment because they don't have health coverage makes me so sad. I love my patients and they love me. I love doing what I do, but I have an entrepreneurial spirit. I just don't know how to start anything. I am so afraid to get involved with something. I feel like I am going to get scammed. I read a lot of entrepreneur books. I know having my own business or even working from home will give me the freedom I need to take care of my family. I have many passions, but have been afraid to reveal them, knowing that I don't have any skills in those areas of interests. I am hoping that someone will read my post. I don't know if this website is still good, because I seen this report a while ago. I am also looking into building relationships with other people who have some common interest as me. I am looking forward to meeting anyone. Thank you for listening. Carla

Hi Carla,

Welcome to WAHM.com!

You sound like you're really overwhelmed, and that's totally understandable. Hopefully we can help you out.

I think your first step is to decide what it is you really want to do. Do you want a work-at-home job or do you want a business? If you want a job, then there are plenty of jobs listed in our Telecommuting Moms forum and you should start there and I'm sure you will have skills to match some of the jobs listed in that folder (be sure to have a current, professional resume ready to go).

If you want a business, there are tons of businesses represented on this site. Check out member's signature lines, the company-specific folders, and the general folders for those businesses that interest you.

If you have a question about any company, whether it be a company that contracts with homeworkers or a business, then please ask. We're all here to help!

Hi Carla and welcome to wahm! I know when I first came to this site yrs ago I felt the same way searching and reading and learning I've meet alot of nice people on this site as well.

First you need to figure out if working from home is for you a lot of people don't realize it's very different than being out in the job field most work at home jobs require a quiet environment away from every thing else going on in the house. I know I couldn't do that there is just to much stuff going on from day to day b/c my family knows I'm home.

That's why I chose a home business instead but that requires money to start and still yet being able to do what you need to get it going b/c it's going to take time to build your business success wont happen over nite with either of these models.

Take your time do research and make sure it is the right fit for you and your family.

I wish you the best of luck in your search.

~Linda

Hello Carla, and welcome to wahm. Sounds like you have a lot going on in your life and need a place just like wahm to connect with others. If you are looking for a business to do from home, just look at the business opportunity folder. There will several moms listing their opportunity. Take the time to get to know those who you are interested in working with. You will want to find someone who is willing to work with you and get you started in the best way possible.

Hi and welcome to the forum. Let me start off by saying that you stated you don't have any skills in the areas of your interest. I find that just because you might not have the experience in something, if you put your heart into it, it will fall into place. Choose someone that you know you will LOVE to do, something as much as how much you LOVE taking care of your patients. Once you have decided that you can go to the next step, whether it be working for yourself or not. Working for yourself isn't as easy as starting and getting a paycheck though, it takes time. But, it sounds to me like you are devoted and with that you will go far. Best of luck

Hi Carla and welcome to the boards
There is so much info on this site, you came to the right place for sure!! When looking to work from home you need to decide if you are wanting to work an at home JOB or BUSINESS.
I went with a home business for many reasons; flexibility of setting my own hours, tax deductions, being my own boss, pay was much higher, etc... It was important to me as well to find a company that was credible Nationaly and that was something I could have a passion for. So I get to help people SAVE money and MAKE money, I love what I do and it is both fulfilling and rewarding.
I know you will find your fit, don't give up!! Look at people's Sigs for ideas on what they do and ask lots of questions!! God Bless hun and Good Luck =)

Carla,

What is your interest and what would you like to do?

Make sure do your research before jumping into an online biz.

Default where do I begin?

Hi Carla-

And welcome to the forum. You are not alone in deciding which business system, product or service you should promote-I too was the same way before I launched my own website (www.personal-goal-setting.com) website in June.

I wrote an ezine article a few weeks back re. how to identify the "right" home business opportunity at the benefit of many people like yourself-who are still in the "investigative stage" of deciding what it is you want to do-home business wise. The article I alos posted on this forum-without reciting word form word-I will spell out for you and others-some of the basics you should use when examing home busoness-work at home opportunities:

a) The product or service you are promoting-must provide TRUE VALUE to your customers (irrespective of the home business you are in). This is KEY. The product and service MUST provide VALUE

b) If you were not in the business, would you still purchase the product or service? Think about it, if you would not purchase the product or service-how can you "ethcially" promote a business product or service that you would not purchase yourself? You must BELIEVE in the product or services TRUE VALUE in order to be able to promote the prodcut or service you are promoting.

c) When you subtract all your monthly fees (Business program system, advertising costs, e-mail, auto-respodner services, fax, phone, merchant account, memebership costs for being in the business), when you remove all these reocurring monthly fees-does the product or service still stand alone? If not-you need to ask yourself what are you really promoting?

d) Irrespective of the home business you eventually sign up with-make sure you have a at least a 30 day written guarantee to quit the program if it doesn't meet your criteria-or at best-the perogram should be pro-rated monthly based upon the amount of months that you are in the business. The webhosting company I use in my business offers this program.

Good luck-

Best-

Wayne

Carla,

I wanted to respond after reading your post. It really touched my heart. I don't know how much I can offer other than support as I'm brand new to this site myself. I have three daughters and the middle one has been my challenge. So I might be able to relate a bit as I definately wanted to enroll her military school about 3 years ago. I've never met a more difficult person and that includes my husband

I understand you're looking for an opportunity to work at home and I wanted to at least list an opportunity that I know about. It's a company called Scentsy. I'm not sure about what your interest are but if you love scented candles you might want to try something like this. It's a party plan company but I absolutely love it. I've been doing it for just about 2 years now and I can tell you it been nothing but a blessing to me and my family. It's not something that is going to let you stay home right away but if you worked at it hard it could be your retirement.

I have a website I would love you to look at but please don't feel obligated. If you do decide to check it out please request additional information on the contact us page so I can send you a catalog and a DVD about the opportunity (free)
It's Forever Wickless Scentsy Candles

Good luck I wish you all the best.
Christie
