Default Why do you choose to work from home?

I was just wondering if people are choosing to work from home instead of outside of the house because they don't have a choice, like no car, or having kids. Nothing is keeping me from taking a job outside of the home I just feel that working from home is physically less demanding. I have a retail background so physical work could get pretty hard.
I do feel like these phone jobs are a lot more mentally intense and pretty stressful.

So why do you choose to work at home and would you rather work outside of the home if you could?

My kids are older and I have transportation. I just like being able to work whenever I want. I like being able to throw dinner in the oven on my "lunch " break..or a load of laundry in the wash. My kids are all older...but I still like being in the house with them when they are sick. I don't like dealing with all the "office " politics that go with working a traditional job. I am a person that just likes being home...I really could keep going on and on...but I don't want to "bore " anyone ..LOL

Well we don't have a car, but had one when I stopped working my regular job I originally started working freelance while employed full-time as a way to make extra money. Honestly, at this point I keep doing it for a combination of reasons. For one, we are going through infertility treatments and the stress of that is too hard to bare with working 40 hrs/week outside of the home. I find it easier to deal when I can work from the comfort of my home. The other reason is because jobs in my area are really scarce.. so my choices are fast food/retail for minimum wage or working from home.. this is far better and I make a little more.

I worked outside of the home part-time, and did titling with DMS for a while, and loved the flexibility. When DMS folded (or whatever happened), I was forced to work outside of the home full-time, and it's terrible. It does not work very well for my family, it's causing constant stress, and to top it off, I'm not sure that I'm really "ahead" (I don't cook from scratch as often, I don't bargain shop or use coupons as much, etc). The worst part is that before I took this job, I NEVER missed anything that my son was doing..now, I am forced to miss a lot. It's been so hard on me! I am very glad to say that this job is temporary, but has lasted a lot longer than I hoped. Hopefully, by the time I am let go, my Jamberry Nails business will have taken off. So, I work from home because it is a better fit for me and my family. I'm not opposed to working my butt off, but when I have to miss my son's stuff, that's where I draw the line!!

I love the flexibility, being able to spend more time with my family, and being able to do this whenever I want, for as long as I want.

I wouldn't work out of the home because I'd miss out on my kids when they are so little. I work 100% around their schedule and have no pressure for fixed hours or time commitments since I make the rules. Plus I really like what my work offers me versus a job out of the home.

I like being home, but at the moment I live in area where there is pretty much no employment available. We moved here for my husband's job, which is at a remote Camp in the mountains. I don't work there, so my only option is working from home. Before we came here, I had a regular B & M job part-time, and supplemented with work online, because, as I said. I like being home! My daughter is grown and gone, but I like having a flexible schedule and being able to cook dinner and do laundry between things, as well as spending time with my pets.

after daycare, gas, tolls, lunches, work clothes, car maintenance, gas, working under some else's rules, set schedule, could not be there for my son when he was a baby (that was hard I cried dropping him off at daycare) . All for what an extra $25 dollars a pay period it was misery.

I will never go back to that.

I live in a rural area, and there are no jobs closer than an hour's commute each way. I commuted for years, and after that job ended, I just couldn't stand the thought of commuting anymore. I like setting my own hours, and if it's a nice day and I want to work in the yard or catch some sun, I can. The drawback is that money is tight and I don't have a husband's salary to fall back on.

I am presently working part time at a job outside the home and part time at my own home business. I definitely prefer working at home because of the flexibility of my time and being my own boss. I am working towards my goal of working full time from home with my own business.
