Default Advice Please!

I am pregnant, due on February 11 with my first child. I had hoped to establish my writing career before giving birth so I would be in a better position to be a work-at-home mom, but between lack of time and lack of energy, things didn't work out as planned. I still have hope that it'll happen eventually, but definitely not before February 11! So I've resigned myself to the fact that I'll probably have to get some other work if I hope to stay home with my baby boy. I definitely don't want to return to my "day" job after maternity leave ends.

My question is this: I've looked on the job boards and such, and there are some positions I've considered applying for. However, with my due date so close, does it make sense to apply to them now? Or should I wait until after he's born and I have a better idea of what kind of time I'll have? Since I don't know when I'll actually go into labor, I don't want the whirlwind that follows to affect a new position. At the same time, however, I know it can take a while to hear back from places or get work once you're hired.

Any thoughts on this? Money-wise I should be ok until the end of March or so, but I won't be able to last financially much past that, so I need something relatively quickly. Any advice is appreciated!

I agree, for any job you would want to wait until baby is here.

Thanks for the feedback, ladies. That's kind of what I was leaning toward, too, but it's so nervewracking not knowing what's going to happen! Money has always stressed me out, and with a baby to worry about, too, I'm a little on edge. I guess I'll just have to take some deep breaths and hope it all works out.

I also agree about waiting until the baby is here. In the meantime, you may be able to find other things to do online to make some money.

Congratulations on your first baby! I am also pregnant (due in April) but this will be my fifth. I agree with the other ladies, it is so close now to your due date that I think it would be best to wait until after the baby comes. Good luck to you, this is such an exciting time. Enjoy those first moments with your little one, they are so precious.

I also agree with the above.

You have other things to prepare for right now. Rest, breathe, get the nursery ready.

Congratulations and keep us posted!

I also agree--take your time to try to enjoy your last few weeks of pregnancy and the early days with your baby! Maybe spend your time looking into opportunities but wait until after to act on anything. Congratulations!
