I am seriously considering starting an advocacy group in my state to work towards changing the driving age for our teens. I have done some research, including leaving a message for my state representative, but I don't know how to proceed next. I have some ideas from contacting our local news papers to reaching out to other parents for their feedback and support, but I was hoping that perhaps someone on here may have some personal or professional experience with this and could share some pointers.
I do apologize if this isn't exactly the right thread to post within. Thank you for any help or advice. |

Ideally, I would like to see junior licenses issued at 17 and full licenses at 18. Obviously, with such an emotional topic there has to be room for compromise, but 16 is just too young. Our area has seen too many young drivers in near fatal and fatal accidents, and the majority of the kids were 16 years old. Sadly, in the past 2 days 8 kids have lost their lives to car accidents that could have possibly been avoided with more experience and maturity.

I think we all breathe a sigh of relief when our kits hit 18 and older!

Here are a couple of resources that may be of help. One is an experienced advocate and the other a resource from the state of Indiana.
On Forming Your Advocacy Group (Part 1) GCPD: Forming a Community-based Advocacy Group Good luck. You've picked a rough one but I understand your passion. -Gery D
