I've got a dr appt Friday but in the meantime, does anyone know what this could be? It's a rash on my 1 yr old that seems to itch. Nothing is making it better.

looks like it might be the chicken pox. Havent delt with that yet so I am not positive. I do know that they start in the warmer places like under the arm, ect.

Is that the only place it is?

If nothing else call the doctor and ask what you can use till the appt to keep the iching under control. Edited by: SAHMof2

Try something for exzema. The girls had something similar for a while. Also try to watch and see if he lays on that side a lot or sits leaning on that side. If so, it might be a problem with your detergent/fabric softener that when it rubs his skin a lot, you get a rash.

Just keep an eye on it to make sure its not spreading, no blisters, no fever. Friday's only 3 days away.

My DD just had something that looked just like this a week ago. The doctor said it was a plain old viral rash. Hers just had to run it's course and in the mean time we put anti iching cream on it. We were told that usually a week or two before getting a viral rash that they get a little cough and maybe a runny nose it last a few days and goes away. Nothing that a parent would be concerned too much about, but then a rash comes out of nowhere. It usually starts on the yop half of the body and works it way to the feet and takes about 6 weeks to run it's cycle.

No changes in bath soap or detergentor fabric softener. I can't think of ANY new foods recently. No fever and no blisters. It's been a while since I've seen a plain ole heat rash. Is thata possibility? The rash has been there since Sunday. Do they last that long?

Chicken pox... great. I also have a 3 yr old. No signs of it yet with her. Would there be blisters if it was chicken pox?

The baby doesn't seem to be favoring one side or the other but she does get itchy. It's on both sides but the one is the picture is worse. It seems to be slowly starting to spread down the back of her arm a bit. I've been letting her go without a shirt because it's HOT here. Ugh! Friday seems so long to wait but that's the soonest they could gether in.

I'd say chicken pox!! My 10-month-old nephew just had it and they looked just like that. I remember them looking different so when my nephew had it I was clueless. Then he had a fever and we got concerned so we took him in and sure enough -- chicken pox!

The rash will go in places where he sweats or is heated -- like waistband, neck, armpits, behind the knees, etc. Use anti-itch cream if she keeps itching it. Nephew was too little to want to itch so it wasn't a problem. But when he was uncomfortable we'd do witch hazel. You can also use calamine lotion. That's my best guess.

ETA: The blisters didn't come until he had the rash MILDLY for a week. He didn't get a real bad case of it but he didn't have blisters right away.

Also, my 17-month-old and my 3-year-old did not get it. I think my dd (17 months) had one or two spots but it could have been a bug bite (according to her doc). She had also just had her immunization for it so she may have had it just in time. My son didn't have any sign of it whatsoever!!

The doc did say that if my daughter did get it that he should know because she'd have to get a booster when she was older.Edited by: sugar

It could also be a fungal infection or ring worm.

I would put some hydrocortisone cream (sp?)on it. My daughter had a rash similiar to that and after a few applications of the cream it went away. It could be a form of yeast infection (looks like it anyway).

Thanks y'all!

I've got some hydrocortizone cream but it says it's not for kids under 2. I diluted it with some very gentle hand cream that I've used on her before. It seems to take some of the itch out. Edited by: tinker
