Default Eggs?

This may seem sort of silly... My 4 year old is addicted to hard boiled eggs! She ONLY eats the "white part" and thinks the "yellow part" is yucky. I know that most of the cholesterol is in the yolk, so I guess that is a good thing. My question is... What do you all think is an okay amount of egg white for her to have per day? I have had to start cutting her off as I don't want her to overdose (she is seriously addicted!)

TIA!

My son loves hard boiled eggs too! He is 7. He is also only interested in the "white part"! I don't know the answer to your questions, but I suggest you offer your daughter other "interesting" food as distraction!

I am just sort of surprised by this. She is in the middle of a cold and has been a bottomless pit LITERALLY! I have been feeding her non stop for 2 days now. Eggs, oranges, apples, toast with peanut butter, oatmeal on and on.
She is eating other things too, I was just starting to wonder about the egg thing.
Thanks for replying!

My daughter loves eggs too! She also only eats the white part of hardboiled eggs, but loves them poached as well. I try to keep her down to around 6 a week.

It's funny you mention eggs. A month ago, neither of my kids (5 and 2) would touch them. Now, I'm buying a dozen JUMBO eggs each week because both of my kids love scrambled eggs. It's the one thing I can count on at lunch time (peanut butter & jelly? NO. Turkey sandwich? NO. Bagel & Cream Cheese? NO). They only want eggs! I usually make 5 eggs for the two of them, and they gobble them down (no pun intended!). I am interested to see how long this will last...

My DD8 goes on egg kicks as well. She loves them too. Lately she likes to make deviled eggs, otherwise she doesn't like the yellow part either. But mixed with mayo, she'll love it.

There's lots of protein in eggs. They are good for you and I would think kids don't have to worry about cholesterol as much as adults unless they already have a weight problem. I let her eat as many as she wants and my budget will provide. When on a kick though, she'll eat maybe two or three a day, but her kicks don't last forever.

The only thing you would really need to worry about with eggs is the hormones (estrogen) they contain. As long as you get free range, no hormone added eggs, they should be fine!

Default eggs are incredibly healthy

The high cholesterol yolk is actually the 'good' cholesterol you truly want more of (like grapeseed and olive oils or avocado). Its also an amazing source of 'brain food' protein. Our ancestors had to eat pounds of high protein foods in order to develop the noggins we're fashioned with today. I suspect eggs were a relatively easy resource 10,000 years ago.

Vegetable proteins are good, (peanut butter, nuts, legumes, etc.), even excellent, sources of protein, but it seems as though we need an extra boost of iron - hence we are an omnivorous species. The yolk might be 'yucky' (my son likes it with salt - hates the whites), but undeniably the healthiest part.

As long as a child's appetite is healthy and diet is relatively varied - the parents shouldn't be too worried.

My daughter is an egg freak too. She recently decided to love deviled eggs as well as hard boiled. She loves runny eggs but won't eat the yolk in hardboiled.. They are a good source of protein but I try to limit to around four a week to keep the cholesterol down. Holidays forget it though.. she will eat 6 deviled eggs in a sitting..
