Mother Magazine Announces a First: The Best Green Companies for <st1 lace w:st="on">America</st1 lace>’s Children (Psst…they’re even better for busy working moms!) <st1 lace w:st="on">New York, NY</st1 lace> (October 30, 2007)—A working mom’s to-do list is always full—when she’s not managing her work responsibilities, she’s juggling the needs of everyone else in the family. And lately she has one more worry to add to her list: the environment. No one thinks more about the future of the planet than mothers, who are vigilant about hazards lurking in the environment and the products they buy, and how their choices today will affect the planet for their children. With the environment a priority for anyone with children, Working Mother magazine, the authoritative source for career moms, set out to identify companies that are taking environmental responsibility seriously. For the first time, the November issue of Working Mother is naming the Best Green Companies for America’s Children, celebrating innovators who are thinking like moms. These 20 corporate leaders are setting new standards by championing environmentally safe, innovative business models. All of them are making extraordinary eco-strides and, in some cases, making up for past missteps. Their progressive thinking, inventive policies and pioneering spirit are helping make the world a greener, cleaner place for children. “We know that our actions today are shaping the world our kids will inherit,” said Suzanne Riss, Editor in Chief, Working Mother magazine. “That’s why we’re honoring industry leaders that are making their businesses greener—from the ingredients and packaging they use to how they build their facilities and run their manufacturing plants. Thanks to their creative thinking, we can begin to imagine a future in which business and environmentalism go hand in hand.” In order to recognize industry-specific challenges and innovations, Working Mother divided the 2007 Best Green Companies for America’s Children into categories including Apparel, Beauty, Design, Entertainment, Family Products, Fashion, Finance, Food, Retail, Technology and Transportation. The 2007 Best Green Companies for <st1 lace w:st="on">America</st1 lace>’s Children: Apparel <ul style="margin-top: 0in;" ="disc"><li ="Msonormal" style="">NAU, <st1 lace w:st="on">Portland, OR</st1 lace>
Beauty<ul style="margin-top: 0in;" ="disc"><li ="Msonormal" style="">AVEDA, <st1 lace w:st="on">Blaine, MN</st1 lace> <li ="Msonormal" style="">BURT’S BEES, Durham, NC
Design <ul style="margin-top: 0in;" ="disc"><li ="Msonormal" style="">HERMAN MILLER, <st1 lace w:st="on">Zeeland, MI</st1 lace>
Entertainment <ul style="margin-top: 0in;" ="disc"><li ="Msonormal" style="">DISCOVERY COMMUNICATIONS, <st1 lace w:st="on">Silver Spring, MD</st1 lace>
Family Products <ul style="margin-top: 0in;" ="disc"><li ="Msonormal" style="">JOHNSON & JOHNSON, <st1 lace w:st="on">New Brunswick, NJ</st1 lace> <li ="Msonormal" style="">PROCTER & GAMBLE, <st1 lace w:st="on">Cincinnati, OH</st1 lace> <li ="Msonormal" style="">S.C. Thanks for forwarding the GREEN message. Those of us in a Green home business benefit from the publicity, whether or not the companies mentioned by the magazine are truly green.
I have seen these names on lists of "green" companies before. I am glad that they are making strides to lessen their impact. Readers should know too that there are other great companies that are greener, whose products are actually good for children and the planet, and who have had a philosophy of being in harmony with nature from their inception. Seek these out. Seek out sustainable business. Look for companies that are Certified Climate Neutral, or are EPA climate leaders. These companies are not likely to be simply "Green Washing" |

All I can say as a RN and Public Health Awareness proponent is IT'S ABOUT TIME!!!
America is a SICKNESS and not a Welllness society. How much does your hospital earn if you are WELL and never visit them?? Your DOCTOR? How about Pharmacies? You get the picture. REEARCH an MSDS (material safety data sheet) on Google on EVERY product BEFORE you it bring into your house and read the warings! Did you know the MSDS on Formula 409 says it's CARCINOGENIC?!? Guys, that means it contains CANCER CAUSING INGREDIENTS. Will never come into my house again.... I too have a totally GREEN house! I absolutely swear by tea tree oil with will NOT harm the environment or my family! WATCH for more info on GOING GREEN in the near future!! AND.... HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!! Green thinking is a hot topic these days. I'd like to share an interesting resource which measures how green you are by answering a short questionnaire here: GreenIQ My Green IQ was 71. Enjoy!
