Default Getting started

I am debating going into insurance but I am not sure where to start. My goals are to be able to work from home with only a short amount of time out of the house. I primarily would like to handle supplemental insurance like medicare part d and the like. Is that possible? What would I need in the way of training? Where would I need to begin?

The first thing to do is get licensed. Then you would probably hook up with a marketing organization who will help you contract with carriers and provide some training.. That's the short version. To get more information you can go to Insurance Agent Forum and do some reading.

Here's a direct link to the section for Seniors:

Something to consider is it's great to think about working from home, but insurance is for the most part a face to face product. You want to be able to form a relationship with your clients. That being said there are some agents on the board who do th work from home thing and from what they say they make a great income. So give it a read and ask questions if you have any.

Good luck in all you do..

There are other options in the insurance industry that you can work primarily work from home like what I do with AmeriPlan. We are a discount company, so it's not insurance, but it helps people who cannot afford insurance, and we have other services that people can use to save on other things that we need from time to time.

You get unlimited free training and this month it's only $25 to start. So this would work for your first goal of working primarily from home, but we don't have anything to do with Medicare (Those who are on medicare use our programs as a supplement...I have a member now who is more satisfied with our dental program than what they got with WellCare ). Just wanted you to know there is this option out there, PM if you have any questions!

An insurance license opens up many doors. Yes some products do pay renewals and depending on the company contract offered to agents something like dental isn't an issue for independent agents. Some companies also offer it as a group benefit.

If you are really focusing on working from home, get a medical insurance and invest on mutual funds with add-ons of an insurance. This will be of great help when something comes along.

I recommend that you go forward and get your life/health license. The exam is fairly straightforward and simple. I used the Exam Cram books to pass mine.

I am now with National Agents Alliance and am happy. I can work part time and earn a full time income. The training they provide is free and the best in the industry. The team I am with does insurance, annuities, and other investments as well. They help you build your team and earn a passive income too.

Hello BlondeAmbition. Does NAA have a noncompete clause in the agent agreement. You can PM me the answer if you so choose. Thanks.

I'm a member of a couple insurance forums (one of them is the one mentioned above by another poster). I would visit those forums and ask questions and read the advice. I think you definitely want to join a company that can train you and show you the ropes as well as help you get leads and referrals. Insurance sales can be a tough job but it helps to have a solid support system which many of these companies provide.
