Default Afternoons

Hi,
I'm glad to have found this area! I have a 5 yr old and 3 yr old. We are debating starting the 5 yr old in Kindy next year because I am at a loss with what to do all day. I lean towards unschooling and unit study type learning. We do some informal work in the morning, read throughout the day, 5 yr old has some screen time on the computer and TV and lots of outdoor time. By early afternoon he is bored! which often leads to disaster! The younger one is napping and I am picking up, working, etc. He will settle for 10-15 min with legos, puzzles etc but I know he is bored. He is not into helping me (and really I would rather he not help with theses chores).
Main ? What do you do all day with 4-6 yr olds? I have to do things like laundry and phone calls and really I am out of ideas for him at this point. Any ideas?

~Amy

Well, kids are very energetic at this stage of life and want to try all sorts of new things. One thing important to know is that kids get bored of the same things rather quickly so they constantly need new things to play with. During afternoon, you may try to set his routine so he may take a nap.engage him in drawing and painting as kids love experimenting with colours. It is very important that you keep on encouraging him and appreciate him for his effort every now and then. He will feel that he is getting attention from his mother through drawing and try to impress you by being better and better. You can give him a candy at the end of the day and tell him that it is because he drew well and was a good boy.

Me too Amy! I am a WAHM with a 4 year old and I am very passionate about homeschooling... However, I can't seem to figure out how to schedule my day around my Scentsy business. It is so difficult for me to have those set business hours because I am doing business all day whether it is talking to/training a new recruit or just getting parties ready, making calls, etc. We have our son in preschool right now and even there he is not learning anything because he is already very ahead for his age. I know the school system here will not be able to provide him the education he needs (if we lived back home I would have no problem putting him in school there) and I worry that maybe I can't either. I am overwhelmed with getting some sort of cirriculum together for summer and would prefer to not put him back in preschool next year.
