Does anybody homeschool just one child? We are trying to have more but for now we just have a 4 year old. I started him in preschool to socialize, and he MIGHT go for one more year. My main reason for homeschooling is because our school system here is rated a 3 out of 10 and i attended a 10 out of 10 public school. I honestly can not send my child to a poor school that has been on academic suspension - and their answer to that was the let them have half days on ALL wednesdays during the school year. So anyways, any information on homeschooling ONE child would be very helpful! I fear it will be harder than two or three. Thanks!

Hi Angie,
We only have one daughter who is 9 years old. She is the only one that I homeschool. My daughter is very active with other children in her additional programs that we put her in. I do not think it would be any harder to just homeschool one child compared to more children, we all just have to do things a little different. I am sure they have programs you could put your child in to meet other children. They are also co-ops, meetings and groups that meet often. Your child is the important one, and you just want to do what is best.... we are all here if you have questions. |

You can look into homeschooling through a charter school or a school district. Many offer classes to homeschool kids. Some online public schools have classes as well. My daughter goes to classes through a charter school and I find it is very helpful with socialization and making friends.

I also homeschool one child. We do 'afterschool' activities with other kids like Girl Scouts, Tae Kwon Do, cooking classes and on fridays she does co-op.
We let her try public school earlier this year, it lasted a 1/2 day. It wasn't the 'party' her school friends told her it was. We also do Local Kids, Local Kids Local Owner Intro - YouTube we work on things, she does reviews, and she has her own website that she has built. We keep to a pretty strict schedule in the way she can't watch tv during the day and we have a weekly to=do lists for what she needs to cover that day/week. I love it, though it is challenging with running a full-time corporation from home. I ended up hiring a management company to help me with the day to day tasks so I could oversee the main growth. I would recommend it to any Mom/Dad who has time. Also check out the Khan Academy, great article on Wired.com.
