Default I need help!

I am hoping that there is someone who could help me. I am looking to homeschool my teenage daughter. We live in Alabama. I have visited countless sites and forums all seeking information. Needless to say, because of verbal abuse from teachers and faculty, I don't think we have any other choice. There may be alternative school. I would like opinions on it please. Also I have read our state law on home schooling. According to it, I have to pay a certified tutor or put her in an umbrella, church, school. I cannot afford either one of these. I am unemployed because of the economy and cannot find a job when none are available. One forum I visited, had someone from AL that said that all that was required was to give a church name for your home. You could make it up. That post was from 2007. I want to know if anyone may have current info, and if it is legal and possible to do this. All home schooling options, except for doing it myself, require tuition that we cannot afford. All place located here require money to even find out if I can do it and it is legal. If there is anyone out there who could help me, I would greatly appreciate any help offered.

Check out this link http://www.hslda.org/... it has information for each state...that would be the best place to start and then also Google the Alabama Department of Education -- they should have a page on homeschooling also.....

Hope that helps!

Thank you for your help. I did try both of them The state department of education has nthing on home schooloing. And the other is not clear enough. It gave me the legal translation, which I have read. It still does not answer my question. and I have to be a memeber to get anywhere to ask a question. I cannot afford membership and then find out I can't do it. I won't get my fee back. I am trying to find out this info without it costing money. Thanks again for your help.

Homeschool World: Alabama Homeschool Organizations and Support Groups

some of these are dirt cheap ($50/year)

If you seriously can't afford $50/year, call them anyway and ask for a scholarship.

I'm sorry I don't know anything about homeschooling in Alabama! Praying something works out for you!

I am praying for you too! It seems ridiculous that you wouldn't be allowed to homeschool!

I think it's crazy that organizations will not give you information on homeschooling without you becoming a member and paying out $$.

Have you tried finding a Yahoo group? I found this one: homeschool-Alabama : This list is for the discussion of topic

This website that I found at the above link has good info

Alabama Homeschooling and Unschooling FAQs - LeapingFromTheBox.com

Alabama Church School Directory (homeschool, unschool, home education, covers, coverings, umbrellas)- Statewide Coverage section - LeapingFromTheBox.com

It does sound like you need to belong to a church school in order to homeschool in Alabama. Most of the fees for schools that I looked at were in the $100 - $120 range. If you cannot afford that, I'd definitely contact a few that you have narrowed down and ask about scholarships.

Keep us posted!
