Default Is that For Real?

Is that For Real?

When we see something outrageous or seemingly impossible, we often ask: “For real?”
Sometimes when we act or say something outside the box we’ll get the question: “For real?”
And then there are the times I do something a little crazy in front of my son and I get the “For real, Mom?”

Hard to believe perhaps, but that “crazy” is definitely real. Sorry, Son.

Authenticity is important to me. Not a big fan of the phony.

Fantasy, on the other hand, is great because we KNOW and ADMIT we’re pretending. Hey, pin a towel around my neck and I’m Superman! [And yes I can leap buildings in a single bound.]
Role playing is one thing. Lying about who I am is another.

So what gives?

We’re embarrassed. We don’t think we’re good enough. We’re afraid you won’t like us, if you see the Real Me. Think it’s not true? Check out a ladies locker room or a celebrity make-up room. The “before and afters” may shock you. What’s real gets pretty fuzzy.

Bottom line: WE MAKE YOUR OPINION MORE IMPORTANT THAN OUR OPINION. We give away our power. It’s called low self esteem. It’s called shame.

NEWS FLASH ON THE POOR SELF IMAGE: IT’S NOT TRUE.

Time to go back to school. You’ve got some UNLEARNING to do, Sparky. I'll go easy on the homework....

A few yrs ago I read a book on raw food by Carol Alt. On the cover is this very attractive woman surrounded by healthy foods. It was a natural, untouched photo of herself. Then I looked her up online, and found her website that is filled with air-brushed photos of her supermodel self.

They looked unreal! I thought to myself, how can anybody think that all that air brushing is improving on her natural beauty?

Our society is messed up!
