Default Major dental surgery Monday

I am a bit scared out of mind because of this surgery. I suffer from an affliction called fluoridosis. As a kid I had drank a lot of city water almost every day. Fluoridated water ingestion causes the teeth to crack & split. My teeth started cracking at the age of 17 and has progressed so much over my 20s and 30s I now need to have all my teeth removed on my appointment Monday. I am not really scared about the pain per se. It's all the stupid things that run through my mind. Like what if I get nervous and pass out? Or what if I have to use the bathroom? I also wonder if they might accidentally start before my gums are numbed enough. I know its all silly, but it's worrying me.

Sorry that you have to have all of your teeth pulled out. I hope every thing goes well for you. I recently had 1 tooth pulled and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Just breathe and you will be okay. Good Luck.

Thank you everyone. I am feeling a bit better. Every once in awhile that fear creeps in. Its weird thinking about spending hours in a dentist's chair and getting every tooth removed. I can't even fathom it at this point.

My sister had to have all her teeth removed a while back. The procedure went better than she expected, and she was fine afterward.

Still, I'm sure you'll be nervous - who wouldn't be? I think nearly everyone has at least a little fear of going to the dentist, and you are going for a major procedure.

If you've chosen a surgeon you trust, be confident that he won't allow any of the things you fear to happen.

Don't drink too much prior to the visit. Use the restroom upon arrival, and ask if you can wear an I-pod to listen to music to distract you a bit.

Positive thoughts coming your way. Please let us know how it goes.

I made it through yesterday! It was kind of terrifying. Come to find out taking Tetracycline as a teenager caused the most damage to my teeth. I took it for over a year as a teen for acne. Come to think of it, that was the year my teeth started cracking and breaking. Between the Tetracycline and the fluoridated water, my teeth were done for.

There was a lot of waiting because they had to make teeth first. After lunch i returned for surgery. The biggest pain was the little bit of needle pokes for the novocaine. The surgeon was very skilled. He was able to pop the teeth out without much effort. It feels weird now, though. It's like I am wearing my dental retainer again like when I was a kid. Overall, the surgery itself didn't hurt. There was one front tooth I felt a slight pain from. I am not sure why. My face was deadened all the way up to my right eyeball. It was drooping when I left. LOL

It really went well and I am surprised I ended up without much pain at all. It's only sore if I move my face around. The only major problem right now is to prevent the bleeding from coming back. I can't bend over or lift anything. I was so scared yesterday that when they took my blood pressure it was a little high and my pulse was very fast.

Next on my agenda is learning how to talk again. LOL It's like I am wearing fake halloween teeth.

Thank you for all your positive thoughts and prayers everyone. I made it through A-okay!! All I have to do now is heal up and learn to eat. I have been drinking some generic Ensure drinks for now. I am starving but I can't chew yet.
