Ok, first of all, I'm not 100% sure the job being referenced is Google. Lionbridge also handles a similar job for Microsoft, and Microsoft does have the time limitation of 7-7 with no weekends, so it might be that one and not Google. Though if it is MS, then the pay for that has gone down as well. I have a friend working that job and she was hired on at $14/hour.

As for Google, well in the first place, they have always used independent recruiters who post ads all kinds of places, on forums and job boards and, yes, Craigslist - so a Craigslist posting is not an indication of anything shady.

In the second place, there has been a consistent pattern of reducing the pay. I was in the very first group of Raters, hired in December of 2003 at a rate of $20/hour. 17 months later, in May 2005, I was laid off when they first implemented the 2-assignments-and-you're-out policy. I was duly hired back 3 months later - at $15/hour.

I continued to haunt this board, hoping that some day there might be a workaround for that policy, and it now appears there is. By allowing Leapforce (and presumably other agencies) to offer this job on a contract basis, it would seem they're able to circumvent the reason for the permanent layoff policy, which was to avoid any possibility of having to ever pay any benefits to Raters. In addition, now the price has gone down even further, with the hire on rate for Leapforce being $13.50/hour. So another staffing agency could well be offering $10. Wouldn't surprise me a bit. It fits the pattern.

The problem is, all the cards are in their hand. For everyone who is insulted and refuses to work for what they're offering, there will be 50 more standing in line to eagerly apply. Yeah it sucks. Yeah, it's exploiting desperate people. But, though I wish I did, I don't see what can be done. It's their call. Times are hard ...

What bothers me most about the craigslist advertisement is the fact that they are mixing up the various companies. As far as I know, Work Force Logic and Lionbridge are completely separate companies and are not affiliated with each other. The fact that they are taking snippets of the job description from both and combining them has me concerned about the legitimacy of of the ad. There is also the nonsense about monitor resolutions which I haven't seen on any of the official job ad sites for Leapforce, WFL or Lionbridge. Buyer beware...

The job description sounds just like the Microsoft position. It's entirely possible that WFL is now recruiting for MS, just as Lionbridge recruits for both MS and Google.

Not only are the wages going down, but from what I hear about Leapforce, the amount of websites rated/hour has gone way up. When I was at Lionbridge, we called it a "home based sweat shop."

WFL has always advertised on Craigslist; that's where I originally saw the Quality Rater position.

Was anyone here hired with WFL after sending a resume, etc., to a craigslist e-mail address?

It's just as easy for someone with bad intentions (phishers, spammers, posers) to put an ad there as it for someone to post a legitimate job offer. I would be very wary about sharing personal information in a first response to a craiglist ad. You have no idea who is on the other end of that address.

And, in this case, if the craigslist add sounds intriguing, why not just call WFL directly? If they are indeed recruiting independent contractors to work as raters for any company, shouldn't they share that with anyone who inquires about it?

Connecting prospective employees to jobs--isn't that what a recruiter and/or temp agency does?

I just noticed this on the WFL Press release page:
"San Francisco, California - February 23, 2009
WorkforceLogic Earns Microsoft Gold Certified Partner Status!..."

I don't have a pdf reader downloaded at the moment so I cannot open it, but I believe this may explain the Microsoft job.Edited by: lovethiscandle

My last job was with a company that was a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner.</span> This status is granted to companies that have a certain percentage of technical staff who are Microsoft Certified Professionals.

Did anyone get any more information on this from WFL? Or hear back? Thanks!

I read the pdf. In this case, it's not referring to the hiring of raters.
