Expedia Posts Huge Loss For Fourth Quarter
Expedia posted a loss of $2.6 billion in the fourth quarter of 2008. The company took a writedown of the accounting value of their goodwill, largely due to significant stock market declines. Expedia's revenue was down 6.7% for the quarter while gross sales were down 11%. Looks like YTB et all are killing Expedia ! Or could we surmise that YTB et alls sales are significantly down as well? Mine aren't. |

Wow, findthemouse.......what loyalty all of a sudden. You were on here a couple of months ago "telling the truth" about your MLM. Now you want to use them to defend your points?? ![]() For your information, I feel no heat from the MLMs OTHER than the black eye they give the industry. You all are not taking business from me. I have plenty of business. Yes, there are some people who will book their own travel because they think its easier. Let's talk with those same people when something goes wrong with their trip. There was a lady on this same forum a few months ago who asked for help because she was unable to get her RTA to help. Ask those parents who lost $100,000 for their children's high school trip. Yup, it was easier. But what happens in the long run when they've lost money? Any answer?? |

Bruce, you are correct in pointing out that the big three are loosing money. There is no doubt that just about every company out there is going to have some bad quarters over the next few months or possibly years.
Of course Bruce, your earning are going through the roof. When you don't have to show earnings its easy to get on here and tell everyone how profitable you are. Its kind of like my company, they tell us everything is great and we are making money hand over fist but nobody can prove that they are. Its not bashing by the way. Its simply stating that anyone can come on here and tell us how wonderful their company is and how much money they are making but no one will ever really know. |

Despite the sour economic news of 2008, Carlson Wagonlit Travel reported its sales volume rose from $26 billilon in 2007 to $27.8 billion last year, a 7% increase, according to CEO Douglas Anderson. He said the corporate travel agency, which brought on $2.4 billion in new business in 2008, benefits from a growing desire of larger companies to consolidate their travel buying either regionally or globally. In addition, the agency’s 2008 client retention rate was 97%, he reported. I would post the link but were not allowed...its on Travel Weekly. So not everyone is doing horribly...at least not yet.

I don't really care what you believe, Mouse. 2008 was our best year ever.
So far for 2009 - pretty comparable to 2008, but most of the growth came at the end of the year so we may not see a comparable increase for 2009. I'd be happy just to have sales remain constant right now. Sorry the recruiting is not going well for you. |
