Great idea. Our pastor's wife actually organizes these at our church to swap clothing and toys.

That does sound like a good idea. I'm not a mommy BUT my mom recently had a baby (yep, I'm 24 years old and have a 10 month old baby sister) and I was thinking that it would be really cool to organize a big mom clothing swap/sale. The only problem is that it seems really hard to get rid of the newborn to 12 months clothes. They just grow soooo fast and they always get way too much at baby showers.

We have Once upon a Child is that like the same thing? You take slightly used baby items and they sell them?

No, I think the idea is that it's a big yard sale made up of all moms selling kid's stuff. I think you bring in all your stuff and it's "consigned" and then there's a big sale weekend where all your stuff is sold (for you) and the people running take a small portion for running the sale while everyone shops each others' sales. I might be wrong but that's how I've heard it explained.

There are 2 types of mom 2 mom sales that I organize. The first is like a garage sale where each mom rents a table and sells their items keeping all of their profits. The second is a consignment sale where moms bring their items for a specific sale (usually 2 to 3 days) and get a percentage of the amount sold (usually 65%). Resale shops such as Once Upon a Child buy the items outright giving you a preset amount per item. There are also consignment children's boutiques that will sell your item and provide you with a percentage (usually about 40%) of the sale of your item. Michigan has a great site that explains the mom 2 mom sale at mom2momsalesmichigan Mom 2 mom sale or consignment sale are a great way to save money and to sell your items for between 10 to 50% of the retail value depending upon whether your item is gently used or new with tags. They can also be a great way to make money too

yes any moms who want to sell their stuff book a table with me. Then the day of the sale they show up and set up all their stuff on the table assigned to them. Then the public comes through and buys, and there are so many things. We usually have about 70 tables and many of the vending moms also bring racks to hang their items for sale on....
At my event the moms rent the tables for $5 each, and keep all their profits. Many times there is an admission charge at the door for the public to get in, but we don't charge, we ask for non-perishable food donations which we donate to Street Hope Ministries. To date we've collected over 10,000lbs of food. |
