I am thinking about babysitting but am wondering how many kids I am allowed to keep at one time (not incl my own kids) without a license? I live in Indiana...

Unhappy Still not sure?

Ive asked several people and gotten many different answers. Some have told me 5, some have told me 6. Then I text ChaCha to see what they said and they said Indiana does not have a specific law for the number of children you can babysit at one time. Does anyone know where I might be able to find the correct answer to this?

Check out your local DCFS website. They usually have a licensing standards form you can download. I know in Illinois you can only have 3 kids without a license unless they are all in the same family.

Thumbs up I found the answer :)

Since I asked several people and researched all over the net to find the answer and kept getting different responses. I thought I would call 4 c's of Indiana. They told me that I can keep 5 or fewer unrelated children at one time. If I get over the 5 then I will need to become licensed. So .... its 5 or fewer and this does not include your own children. So if you still have children at home then you do not have to count them toward those 5.

Hope this helps anyone wondering the same question!

Default 5 or less

Yes... It's 5 or less unrelated children. You could theoretically have 5 of your own children and watch 5 children with no regulations to follow (seems kind of silly). I watch 5 children (3 of them part time) and I have one son who is 2 years old. I also sell Thirty One products. I stay busy! To find children, I advertised on Craigslist and by word of mouth. I have a blog that tells more about what I do at Thirty One Inspirations
