He deserved it.
Michael Jackson must have been a tortured lonely soul. When you get to that level of fame everyone is a "yes" person. His doctor however had a higher obligation. Shame on him.

I think it at least sends a message and we can't discount the fact that MJ probably didn't want any help or avoided doctors that suggested helping him. It is partly his fault too that this happened. Unfortunately it is part of the culture for people like him and Anna Nicole Smith etc.
I did check out This Is It when it was airing on one of the music channels and I think the tour would have been too much for him. It seemed rigorous for someone his age struggling with the problems he was having. If it wasn't drugs, he would have easily worked himself to death.
