Well I am done with the drum I had a little of a hard time with it. Does not help that the material I got did not match the sample they sent me. Plus the sample was falling apart. All but 2 of the bells fell off. Anyway I hope I did okay I really want this to work. So how picky are they? I also got ribbon that had blue makes all over it was a white ribbon and it looked like ink marks. I tried to cut it the best I could so that none showed but they do show in edge where it is folded. I will have to wait till Friday to send it in so how long does it take to hear anything? Also any tips on how to get it there in one piece?

Hi,
I used a hard plastic bottle with screw on lid to ship my drum samples. I also taped to the bottom of the box, so would not roll around. This worked well for me , just had to had extra postage for the return trip.
NEC has many different color combinations on their projects. Send a note that your sample was damaged, I got a new sample when this happened on a different project.
Count on 2-3 weeks to get your sample back

Ladies, I was wondering about starting NEC and have questions about the whole taxing issue. WHo pays taxes and how it works? Could anybody share their expirience?

Thank you so very much

You are considered an independent contractor so you'll have to file your own taxes. On their website it says that they will send you a misc. 1099 form at the end of the year.

Hi all! I was really considering getting started with this company. Does anyone know of a good kit to start out with or any tips they can give. Anything would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone!

I was wondering what everyone uses to trace their patterns? I have a disappearing ink pen but it doesn’t work that well, so I am afraid that my inspection wont pass because of the ink.
Also is it conceivable to make a decent income if this is done full time. I need at least $1400 net per month, so if I take on more than one project could it be done? <?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" />
P.S. I signed up for the reindeer but they sent me the horse. Not sure I like this one. What are some better ones?

Ksager,
I got some of the graphic sheets that are like a thin plastic page, not paper that you can still cut with scissors. I think I got them at Walmart. Some of the pages have the graphic lines on it and some don't. You can see through them so you can trace the pattern they give you and then just cut it out. It seems to be a little more sturdier than the paper. I do the reindeer and what I do is just take a small dab of hot glue to the center of the pattern and attach it to the material. This keeps the pattern on the material as I cut it out. It works for the reindeer because the side of the material where I put the glue will become the inside of the reindeer, so you won't see any of the glue marks that may get left behind, or any felt that may get pulled up from removing the pattern. I also don't try and cut out 2 patterns and match them up. I found it easier to take the 1 side that I cut out and glue it the un-cut material except for where the saddle would go on as you still have to insert the stuffing. Then that cut piece would become the pattern to cut out the 2nd side. And when your done cutting, your pieces would already be glued together. I found this to be the easiest way to line up the sides without ending up with mis-matched pieces. At least it was for me. I also glue the pattern to cut the saddle, but just make sure the glued side is the side facing down. This method didn't work to well with the ears or tail however, as they were just to small. It probably wouldn't be a good idea either if the you need to see both sides of the piece you cut out.

I can't really comment much on the income, as I'm just getting back into this and I really only do it part-time, but I think anyone here will tell you that it really depends on how much you can do and handle in a month. If you did all projects that paid 1.50 a piece, then you would have to do like 934 pieces a month, which averages to about 233 pieces a week.

Did they say why they sent you the horse instead of the reindeer? I like working on the reindeer. I also do the penguin and like doing him, now that I figured out the wool wrapping. I do the lovebirds and I don't mind working on them, but I like working on the other 2 better. I'm also trying to get approved on the drum, but I don't like the drum at all. I'd like to switch it and try the fiber snowman. There are others here that do the drum and like it. I think it's just a matter of what you really like to do? We can all give your our opinions, and I'm sure they will all be different. You just have to really figure out for yourself what you like to do.

Good luck in whatever you decide to do???

Well NEC has told me that thebest kits for beginning crafters:#16 the tropical bird house, #31 the magical lovebirds, #25 thelittle drum, and any of the magnets. These kits do not involveanyglitter:#1 CD Cover, #3 Mama Clause Dress, #8 Sheep, #14 Beaded Pillow & #19 Toe Ring Set.

Honestly I think it just depends on what you are personally good at and like to do. Each person is different. Do know their projects have detailed steps and are small.
