Hello all-I just received my first set today, which is the toe ring set and I need help! I just cannot get the leather to shape into a cone!!
I even had my hubby and a friend try and we are stumped....I really dont want to pay the $15 to get a video unless someone here can tell me that it helped them tremendously. So, if you can give me any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it! My e-mail addy is naomifitzgerald@yahoo.com if you would like to e-mail me directly. Thank you ahead of time for any suggestions! If I just cannot get it, what craft would you recommend for me to trade this set in for? I am pretty sure they allow you to do that anyway. I do have experience sewingif that helps. Thanks again!

I wish I could help you, I tried to do the toe ring set but I could never the cone right. Mine was too big or too small.

Soooo...after spending about 3 grueling hours with that leather I just cannot get it to shape right for me!! I wrote NEC and am hoping that they will allow me to trade the toe ring set in for antoher project....any suggestions on the easiest ones? Thanks...

I'm sure they'll let you switch. I had tried the reindeer before the toe ring and I couldn't get it right. They had me send back the reindeer kit and try the toe ring instead.
NEC says the easiest ones for beginners are thetropical bird house, the magical lovebirds, thelittle drum, and any of the magnets. Good luck. |

I think I am going to give this a shot & start with the little drum. I'm hoping this could be a way to supplement my daycare income. I love doing crafty things, but have never tried making money at it.
Years ago I tried processing mohair at home (raw doll hair) but it turned out that you had to do soooo much of it in order to actually make any money that I wouldn't have time to do anything but that. So, I gave up. Hopefully, this will be a better experience. I'm glad I read this thread before ordering a kit though, because when I first looked at the projects, I was considering the carousel horse. I collect carousel horses, so that one really appealed to me. But, if it's so difficult, I don't want to start there. Should I order the training dvd for the drum? Also, for the sewing crafts, do any of those require a sewing machine? I figure the cd case does, but do any others? I can do some simple stitches by hand, but I don't have a sewing machine, so I want to be sure I never order a kit that requires one. Too bad they don't offer anything with crochet. I'm good with that! ![]() |

mystyk, sorry to hear about your toe ring difficulties, perhaps it's not the craft for you. I'm sure there is one that you will find works for you. Perseverance is crucial as you take the plunge into any of NEC's projects. I've found from reading this forum that your 1st attempt is typically a learning experience and the attempts after that are all aboutfine tuning. Good luck on which ever you decide to tackle next!
Sarahef83...just wondering is your styrofoam ball round or oval? or are there 2 balls that make the body of the sheep? Good luck on working with him, let us know how it goes. Nanc

garnetgirl, Giving the drum a shot is a great idea! especially if you enjoy crafting. I can't give you any insight on working on the drum, I'm pretty sure there are a few ladies working that craft at the moment on the board. I'm sure they'll have wonderful advice. Oh, and you're right about the sewing on the cd case. I remember KrazyKate in TX was working on that one and she did mention using her sewing machine.
Good luck finding what works for you! Nanc
