janabanana,

I agree with McSue, just send it in! I sent my Magical Love Birds in thinking that it would definitely not pass, and to my surprise, I did better than I realized. Still didn't pass, but it was also my first try, and the comment sheet you get will be helpful for not only fixing your mistakes, but preventing any ones you might accidentally make on your second try. I also didn't pass on my Tropical Birdhouse, which I thought was really good, but the two comments they had for me made a lot of sense and I agreed 100% (in one case, didn't realize what they were looking for; in another, I just didn't check my work closely enough).

It is so funny how disappointed I was when I didn't pass on the first try. I KNEW I wouldn't pass on the MLB and assumed I wouldn't on the TB, despite the good start. I know that almost no one passes on the first try and I don't have a lot of crafting experience, and yet I was still bummed. I got over it by the next day and got excited for another try. Just dive in and enjoy the experience!

The good news is, I received my comments/samples back in only 2 weeks from the day I mailed them in! Perhaps they're on a fast streak at the moment and you'll hear back from them soon, too.

Lyn

Well everyone I have been working on my new carousel horse everything was going fine and then... I thought i would paint the dowel before putting it in the horse so no paint would get on it smart thinking i thought but then after i got it painted i thought o man i have to put the saddle on! well the paint was still wet and i should have just let it dry and then taken the ball of the one end but nope wasn't thinking right i just took a paper towel and pulled the one off and wiped the paint off the other one. k no big deal i will just repaint the ends later. then comes the fur and o my what a mess! fur flying every where it was thin too and my sample's fur looked thick but oh well I'll deal with it I started to measure what I needed I cut the mane out I glued it on well it looked goofy i thought anyway but in the end the mane was fine. now for the tail, I cut it out and thought I would cut out the other tails for the other two while I'm working with the fur. i cut away and i have them on the table then i noticed i cut three out forgetting i only needed two. oh my! well i hope i'm able to get manes out of the tiny piece of fur left but i might have to go to the store. I'm thinking this is not going to pass just stop trying to make it look better your making it worse! finally I've got to the last step the eyes I see they need to be sewn on. lol ya right! they want it tied behind the ear so you cant see the knot ok fine I had the hardest time with the eyes they drove me nuts. well thats what happened with the carousel horse. I think it looks better than my sample though. I still like my carousel horse so it hasn't won yet. lol

the purple one is my sample. The tan one is mine

could not view your pics.
I so understand about letting paint drymessed up a very good drum sample once. Told myself that it would not happen again, next sample did almost the same thingYou'll figure out the best way of doing things.
Justmac the woman who started the nec thread had many go arounds with the fur flying to, might want to go back and read her posts.
When possible I buy my own supplies to make practice samples between inspections found it really helped me out in the past.
maybe you can sew on eyes before you put on fur just make sure knot is under where fur will go?

I do the reindeer and am suppose to do the same thing with the eyes by tying the knot behind the ear. I actually found it easier to sew the eyes on before putting the 2 body pieces together. I'm not sure how the horse actually goes together, but it seems to be similiar to the reindeer minus the post. So maybe you can sew on the eyes before you glue the body pieces together.

Ruschele...completely agree with the eyes on the reindeer. Put it together and got to the instructions to put the eyes on and I thought that same thing!!! Put the eyes on first before putting the body together. Sent my sample in 2 1/2 weeks ago and no word yet. I am so anxcious!!!! Sent in 4 projects. I am however prepared to be rejected on them all. The posts have done well preparing me!!!!!

Shapri, I got the toe ring and drum kits from NEC.

I have not heard anything onmy first drum try, yet. As for the toe ring, the instructions and the sample are not the same. I am cracking my brain rereading and rereading the instructions and looking at the sample...still not the same. Oh well, I put it down and did the kitchen floor instead. I am putting new tiles on our kitchen and have it completed within two days.

And here I am, back to the toe ring and still confused....hahaha

Have a good day everyone!Edited by: Hope2BMom

I don't know if there might have been a slight design change on that project, and you got an old sample or directions by mistake. Maybe call or email to find out.
Good luck on your first drum, it's one of my favorites!

I just got my 4th drum back it said great sample but can see glue on the bells. But 2 bells fell off. Does anyone have any hints on how to glue the bells on? On my sample the bells were sewn on is that ok?

I sent my scottie in. I wasn't totally happy with how it turned out. My writing wasn't the greatest and I wasn't happy with how the black material looked but I guess now I will have to wait with the rest. They shipped it to me really quick.
