Tricks of the Trade

There are many SEO tricks which can help boost your rankings, but for the most part they are continuously changing. If you want to do search engine marketing for a living it might be worth it to learn them, but for the most part its not necessary to learn any tricks.
The General Business Cycle

For a business to create great wealth it first has to create great value. How I look at the internet is that I can read about and test things that interest me for a few thousand hours and then redistribute these ideas quick and free. If it is something I am interested in learning I tend to discount the value of my time since I am just learning what I want.

Many people want instant profits. Generally it is not possible to make long term profits which start today unless you are busy learning and building a reputation. Short term profits are possible, but my goal is long term.

Every week thousands of people glance at my site and hopefully can save a few minutes or hours. Thus the overall return is time saved. If I save someone time hopefully they will consider linking to me or telling their friend about me. My marketing power expands as third part votes add up.

You can always invest in some cheap marketing literature that will help you in many different aspects of marketing and drawing traffic to your website.

No doubt keywords are very help full for optimization but if you want to reach top ten ratting of Google ranking than concentrate on back links because the increase your traffic using Google indirectly. Back links generate traffic and your ratting increase gradually.

The best traffic you get will be natural traffic with your keywords. Use google adwords external keyword tool and find yourself keywords that get alot of searches but don't have much competition. PPC advertising can get super costly so don't even try it until you learn alot about it or it could drain your funds quickly!

Hi Bellac
Everyone has pretty much said everthing but I want to highlight a few things:

1) You don't have to use Google Ads pay per click especially if you are on a budget. As long as your website is PROPERLY optimized with your chosen keywords it will appear in natural results. My cousins uses google's pay per click to promote their car detailing business and though they have gotten customers from it, they ended up paying a lot of money. Just ensure you know what you are doing before going into Google Ads.
2) Their keyword tool is very helpful in terms of finding different keywords that people use when they are searching.
3) When using keywords within your website or posts. Be careful not to overuse your keywords. I suggest placing your keywords in the Beginning, Middle, and End of your posts.
4) While you are building links to your websites, there is a helpful tool called Backtype alerts or is it Google Alerts?..i don't remember but what it does is it alerts you to comments being said around the blogosphere about a selected topic that you chose. So let's say you want to know what people are saying about jewelry. You enter "jewelry" and it sends you links to websites where people are talking about jewelry. There you would make your comments and leave a link back to your site.
5) Google webmaster tool is another great tool. It monitors your website and gives you suggestions if you have problems or errors on your website etc.

Good luck!
