Hi Megan

Here is a great resource for learning how to make your site sell.

I have used a lot of the ideas myself.

Good luck with your business

The best Adwords information I have found is from Perry Marshall. He has a free 5 day mini course that serves as a great place to start.

Also, consider that Google has 51% marketshare in the search market. This means the others (like Yahoo, MSN, AOL) are typically less expensive but will still reach millions of people. You may want to try those, too.

I also like to test run my Ad campaigns on AdBrite's network, which is generally cheaper as well. And then when you find good ads that work well, then take them over to the bigger networks.

When you spend money on Google or any of these, you have to make sure you are getting something from it. The more they click, the better the ads -- but you have to make sure you are getting sales, names and emails, feedback etc., to justify the investment.

Loot,

Rather than simply inviting people to join your list (border-line advertising), would you be open to sharing some of your insight regarding website promotion?

Warmly,

Velma

Velma Yes,

Ag ja- once again I am putting my feet in where it does not belong. Apologies if I offended anyone – I seem to do a lot of that these days.

I would still recommend that anybody who needs to do website promotion should subscribe to the eZine – as it gives you a vast insight on this vast subject – but it presents it to you over a longer period of time so it can sink in a bit better.

Website promotion is a vast subject that one can not simply cover in one email – but – since you asked I will try and give you one of the articles I wrote on this subject – maybe this can assist. But here is one of the articles I wrote on the subject:

Five Proven Methods for Internet Marketing Success
By Loot Gous

There are hundreds of ways that you can promote your
online business or website, some more effective than
others. These five proven methods will help you to
generate traffic to your site and also to generate
income into your wallet.

1. One thing that appeals to everyone is "free"; If
it is free people will take it. Think of the samples
of cheese given away at grocery stores. Do you really
want a small piece of cheese? Of course not! But you
take it simply because it is free and someone is nice
enough to offer it to you. The same principle applies
with information or services offered from your
website. You can send out free newsletters or offer a
free trail period. One popular thing that is being
given away now are free credit reports or free PC
scans. These freebies are what we in the marketing
field like to call teasers. After running the free
credit report or PC scan we alert the customer if
there is something found on their credit record or PC
and then offer to show them what it is or repair the
problem for a price. This can be an effective way to
get information to your potential customers, create
sales or to generate traffic to your site.

2. Your website contains information about a service
or product that you are very knowledgeable about. You
can use this knowledge to generate traffic to your
site by writing articles in your area of expertise and
having them published in an ezine or an article
information site. The most effective way to use these
articles is to write them for free and ask in return
that the publisher allow you to include a byline. A
byline is a very short summary of the author, their
credentials and their website. Your byline is a way
that readers will come to know you as an expert on the
topic and will in turn come to trust your site as a
source of credible information.

3. Some search engines will allow a website to
purchase their ranking. This is an excellent Internet
marketing technique in that it is effective and
inexpensive. In the pay-per-click programs, website
are only billed for those who actually visit the page,
unlike banner ads which may be seen by millions but
only used by a few. When using the pay-per-click
program you are asked to choose keywords and when
those are entered your site will appear and if the
surfer chooses to view your site, you are billed for
that click. Many pay-per-click programs will offer
other benefits as well, such as updated lists of
commonly used keywords.

4. You should remember that others are in the same
boat as you. You can choose to network with those who
have similar marketing ideas. When networking you
will be able to share links and refer customers to
each other. You should always be very cautious when
choosing a networking partner as everything that you
recommend is a reflection of yourself or your product
and therefore, you should be certain that your
networking partner is a reputable source of
information.

5. Simply because your website is online, doesn't
mean that all your advertising should be. Advertise
in newspapers, TV, the radio or you can even send out
a press release to get your information to thousands
of people all over the country.

I trust this helps.
Loot

Do you have a myspace page yet? There is such a huge market on myspace that it can't hurt to have a few of you beautiful pieces showcased on there with a link to your website. It's free and lots of fun.

Just to warn you though ... myspace can be very addicting! I can spend lots of time playing on there adding to my page and finding old friends.

There's a part where you can post events also that may work for Open Houses, etc. You can also post blogs that will be circulated to all of your friends too about any new info with your store.

Good luck!

Hi Megan,

There is a lot to learn in the field of internet marketing. I am certainly not an expert at it, even though I have been in network marketing for ten years. I did not know how to effectively merge the two fields so I could get the benefit of internet marketing. However, what I am about to suggest I believe would benefit anyone in business.

The company is PayitForward4profits and their is a link in my signature.

On a different subject, the first young woman I ever kissed was named Megan and she was the daughter of a Senator from Virginia. I was 14 at the time. I'll neve forget her.

Hi Megan!
I know that a lot of folks have already given you some wonderful ideas but I'd like to expand on them for you since I know exactly where you are coming from.

Keywords and incoming links are the lifeblood of your site. You are in a very competitive business so you need to find out what makes your site unique. I've visited your site and it looks very nice but I'd do a few things to help your search engine rankings:
 1. On your pages you are making use of <alt> text on your images and while it's descriptive for the item, it doesn't seem to contain your keywords. An example would be your sterling silver earring section. The images have the names of the items but if your keywords for this page are "sterling silver earrings", then each image should have that term in it's description. "Sterling silver daisy stud earrings".
 2. Also, the title of this particular page is "bella of cape cod earrings" yet if I do a keyword check to see how many people search for this term I come up with 0 searches yet if I search for "sterling silver earrings" I see that over 2000 people searched for that in the month of July. (I used overture - http://inventory.overture.com - completely free).
 3. Take each page individually and use a different keyword for each page.
 4. Lastly, try putting up some really good content on your site. Maybe some articles on how to clean sterling silver jewelry, or how to store sterling silver jewelry. Things like that.
I hope this helps to expand on the other advice you've received. If you have any questions, please let me know!

Kristine
