Default Good schools

I'm thinking of becoming of becoming of a medical coder. I'd like some suggestions of schools to go for and schools to avoid. Would a online community college work? A school like Everest? Please advise.

Jeremy

Sorry, I have no advice Jeremy but I can tell you that I just chose to sign up with Everest for medical billing and coding but on campus just because I wanted the campus experience. I hope someone who has some advice on different schools will come along soon.

I'm looking into coding classes now myself and I'm going to take online classes from one of the main coding organizations, either AHIMA or AAPC. AHIMA has a section to find accredited schools.

Best of luck.

Get into a school that’s known for delivering quality vocational training. I have heard good things about schools like Career Step and Andrews in that regard and know for certain that the former offers a medical coding course online. Check out their website for more details.

I've heard that Everett is a good school. They use Career Step materials but since they are community college, you can apply for Federal Financial Aid -something you can't do with Career Step. It's the only school I've found, besides local community schools, that offer an accrediated program with fianancial aid.

Another option is to look at the AHIMA for schools listed, some may offer financial aid. THere are more options for something that can out-of-pocket and not need financial aid.

Post Options

Community Colleges can provide the nessasary training to get started in this career. Continuing Ed provides this too. Be careful about for-profit schools. They are more in it for the money than the training.

Everett also has instructors so you will get a lot of feedback on your work and assistance if needed. I completed the medical transcription program through Everett on the CareerStep platform.
