I'm still trying to make heads or tails of medical coding, but I have heard buzz about ICD-10. What is this? I imagine it is the 'way' you code? the current method of coding? I should start class in January, will I be learning ICD-10? are 9 and 10 substantially different? how often do they change? I have so many questions. I'm going to take my classes online and I really want to be successful, so I'm asking a lot of questions!

ICD 10 is what is going to replace ICD 9. It is totally different from ICD 9and last I heard will start Oct 1, 2013. If you are starting classes now you will learn ICD 9. Visit AHIMA.org for more information.

Do not worry about ICD 10. first learn ICD 9 and try to get a job. Once you are in any organization, they will take care to train you in ICD 10
