After checking your state's regulations (if you're in the U.S.) and getting your licenses, you could build a website and then get a booth at fairs and farmer's markets.

Default food products....

Selling them carries a lot of risk, if you don't do it right.

Health department - proper ingredient labeling due to allergic reaction to ingredients
prep area needs to be certified, licensed, possibly bonded, most likely insured

Would help if you gave more info, what kind of product, how are you selling now

I've always wanted to package and sell my own 'healthy' cookies-
It's a ton of work to get it done right and I got stumped and never followed through. If you have luck I would love to hear it!

I would like to try to sell my Mother's hot fudge sauce.

We have a cat & a dog, so I would probably have to find a place to produce it outside my home, correct?

Thanks for the replies!!

I live in Michigan and we have the Cottage food law that we can follow in order to sell food directly to customers (no online sales). It is good to use while starting your business so that youcan develop your recipes and earn start up funding.

I highly suggest becoming a part of a network marketing company that already has the marketing and business system in place. This will help you get your feet "wet" per se.

I know of a few that are great. Country Gourmet Home & Tastefully Simple are my favorites.

Country Gourmet Home is extremely affordable to join. Pair that with the power of Facebook (posting pics during peak hunger hours--haha) and you're in business.

First, check all state regs, health department, etc. Then, I would suggest setting up a website, going out to local gift shops, mom and pop restaurants, etc. and asking if they would be interested in displaying your products, perhaps for a commission of 5% or so. The Farmer's Market idea is a good one also.
