Default Advice for Marketing

Hey there-

I was just reading a few of the threads about what social media outlets you should use and how when it occured to me that some of it seems very overwhelming.

When you are in business for yourself it is as important to 'get out there and be seen" as it is to "keep your sanity"

That being said, I would strongly recommend making a schedule for what you plan to do and when.

When I first started working from home, instead of diving right in and doing it all right away I sat down with my mentor and made a schedule of what I would do when.

Now, anytime I start to add another stream of income into my life I do the same thing.

For example when it comes to social media you have twitter, facebook, stumbleupon, digg, delicious and many many more.

Then depending on what type of business you are in you have to think about what other marketing strategies are out there, who you want to reach, how many people you would like to deal with on a daily, weekly and then monthly basis.

You also want to think about what the maximum amount of people you can effectively deal with is. You definitely don't want to short change someone because you have too much on your plate to manage.

Some other things to think about are;

if you have a blog- how many days a week are you going to post? Will it be set days? Do you know what you will blog about tomorrow? what about a week from now? Have any topics in reserve for when you get writers block?

if you are in a MLM- how many in person exposures will you make per day? how many long distance packages will you send per week? How will you get leads? How much do you need to make in order to cover the lead cost?

if you are a freelancer- how will you get people to hire you in the first place? Where can they see what you have already done? How will you build your brand? What do you want your brand to be?

you get the idea.

Whatever it is you do, start with the basics. What do you want from your business and what is the most efficient way to get there? You don't have to subscribe to every social media outlet there is in order to be effective. You should effectively use the social media outlets you join.

Hope this helps. Remember, just breathe.

Liz

Your right about not having to use ALL social media outlets. There are only 4 or 5 that will produce 90% of your results. Stick to those and let the others slide.

A great book on this subject is Social Media Marketing (In an hour a day) by Dave Evans

Very true. I just blogged about how important having a marketing plan is with a home business. Too often people do not have a plan and quit. Having a plan is especially important when marketing online only. Great post .

Talking Plan Your Work

You must alway do 2 things in network marketing.

1.) Plan Your Work!

2.) Work Your Plan!

If everyone would stick to those 2 little rule network marketing will go smooth.

Default Faster Marketing

One of the things that helps me is that I try to find someone who already has a great list of folks that will be interested in what I have, whether MLM or not.

The key is to not market to folks who have no interest whatsoever in what you are doing.

You can JV with folks or just ask them to tell their people about you.

This saves so much time!

Cheers,

Jane

Its right, Engaging yourself in all the social media contacts is waste of time. Just derive the best ones that are useful from your business point of view.

Liz, sound advice. I do this and reevaluate at least three times a year (based loosely on the semester system). This week is one of our evaluation periods!
