Default How do you generate Holiday cash?

I've been trying to come up with a way to make some extra money on top of putting my nose to the grindstone. I'm a writer so I'm thinking of putting together this book about celebrating Christmas along with some bonus stuff. The idea is to not only sell the ebook but to allow those who buy it to resell it. Think this would work? I figure people could sell it on their blogs and stuff.
I've also been advertising to write personalized books as gifts. Kids books and romance books that have the gift receiver inside the story.

What do you do to bring in extra cash for the holidays?

I generate my Christmas cash all year long so fortunately, I don't have that worry but I think your idea sounds like fun! My only thought is whether or not an e-book will be a big seller for a Christmas present as most people prefer giving something in hand so to speak. Might be something business people would buy to give to clients though.
Good luck with it!!!

I like the personalized book idea, especially if you find a quality publishing outlet (single copies, well-produced, that you can mark-up).

It is best if you can do it all for the customer -- writing, design, and publishing. I encourage you to get promoting, though. Many people are already done with their rather meager shopping efforts.

Best of luck!!

Making money during the holidays isn't really distinct from other seasons, is it?

I think your idea might work better as a real book. Or maybe you could look at a Kindle version so that it has a higher perceived value.

Your biggest competition is all the free web sites with holiday ideas. What will you have that they won't?

I love the idea of writing personalized books and giving them as gifts. That's a very original idea and should be pretty easy to promote towards parents with kids. My parents had a similar thing done when I was a kid. They found a place that took the story Snow White and replaced one of the 7 dwarves with my name and some of my attributes. Is was unforgetable yet I have no idea where the book is now.

I'm not to keen on the Xmas book. What will seperate it from all the free Xmas things out on the web? If you're a writer start a free blog or website and advertise your writing skills to people who need it. Not everyone can write people need ghostwriters, article writers, and detailed item descriptions for ecommerce sites. Throw some samples of your work up on your free site and start advertising the site. Make sure you have a section describing your services and fees for content...500 words = $, 200 words = $, etc. Also mention you personalize books too for a price. I think that is your best bet and it's a year long money maker. You can work as much or as little as you want.

Hope this helps.

Thanks ladies. I do have a website advertising my ghostwriting and articles writing. I also just got accepted with Demand Studios so that will help. I'll definitely put up information about the personalized books on my writing site. Thank you all!

Affiliate marketing!!! Most people are in a buying mood.
If you have a blog, blog about a cool product or some gift ideas and add there your affiliate links. Chances are someone will click on your links and purchase the items. You'll earn a commission.

What about selling custom HOLIDAY greeting cards? As a writer, you could easily create humorous and loving verses.
