Ok I was going to stay out of the detox thing but since there have been debates and they continueI guess I will add in..... And I will add that I have sold the detox foot pads.

Yes the body detoxs itself although in some cases it needs help. Not saying the detox patchs are one of them or other products on the market are but people feel theyneed these things because the they are doing something. Now here is the question what are they doing if they are not detoxing your body?

Detoxification foot pads are adhesive foot pads or patches that manufacturers claim can dramatically improve health when placed on feet during sleep. Pads contain ingredients such as "distilled bamboo vinegar" that allegedly pull toxins from the body.[1] These claims are not scientifically plausible as the skin is not permeable and is not able to conduct toxins out of the body.[2]

Manufacturers claim that the amount of 'soil' that appears on the pad in the morning is proof that toxins have been removed, but in reality, the same effect can be created by dampening the pad with water.[3] Dissection of an unused pad reveals a white powder but no absorbent material inside.[4]

While there are claims of widespread use in Asian countries, there are no known studies on foot pads. On January 3, 2008, the FDA released an urgent warning [5] regarding the potential dangers of many imported pharmaceutical substances including several brands of detox foot patches.

Here is the detox process of the body:

Detox, short for detoxification, in general is the removal of toxic substances from the body. It is one of the major functions of the liver, lower gastrointestinal tract and kidneys. In conventional medicine, detoxification can also be achieved artificially by techniques such as dialysis and (in a very limited number of cases) chelation therapy. There is a firm scientific base in evidence-based medicine for this type of detoxification. Many alternative medicine practitioners promote various other types of detoxification.

Detoxification can also refer to the period of withdrawal during which a person's body to return to homeostasis after long-term use of an addictive substance.

you know how they work? your feet excrete a lot of oil. that's why your floors stay cleaner if you don't go barefoot in the house. you've seen it if you have white floor tiles: after a couple of days, they get this nasty yellow-brown tint to them. that's dirt and dust trapped in a film of oil left by the passage of bare feet. upon exposure to air, the oil turns dark.

voila. instant so-called "detox".

oh - forgot to mention that there have been cases of false advertising successfully argued in court. i had a link to an australian tribunal hearing transcipt where the manufacturer admitted outright that the detoxification claims were a marketing ploy but now i can't find it.

btw: coffee enemas don't work either.

but, as i said, once i've explained the reality of the product, if the customer still wants to buy it, i'll sell it to them with a clear conscience.Edited by: threenorns

I can't even begin to tell you what image this brings for my Starbuck's fixation! LOL

Actually, I've never ever heard of a coffee enema. But it sounds just awful

if by "it works" you mean it makes him feel healthier and refreshed, then that's terrific.

if by "it works" you mean it has measurably increased his body's overall health, the only way to determine that would be by before and after blood and endocrine tests.

Well I think I will order them this campaign and put water and salt over them as a sign of sweating which I believe is what your feet are doing and see how they turn out.

momma - what they're doing is absorbing the oils coming out of her feet and since our feet always have a certain degree of dirt on them, it gives the pad that grungy look. use them enough and dirt stops getting stuckon theskin andthe pad comes away cleaner. basically, your sister has very nice, very clean feet now.
