Ok, so I've been doing a lot of calling the past 2 days, following up on my Neighborhood Greetings/Welcome Wagon account. (For those of you who don't know what this is, it's a service where local businesses provide coupons and info on their business to a representative who visits new residents to share the info.) I've done about 45 calls with about 20 people actually answering the phone. I thought I'd share some tips and hopefully get some good tips in return. smileys/smiley2.gif

- Stand up when you call

- Smile

- Relax

- Go into a quiet room with no distractions

- Have a little script or jot down some main points before you call to be prepared on what to say

- Keep notestomaintain a call history on each potential client

- If someone gets rude, just smile and genuinely say "thank you for your time, have a nice day"

- If someone says "I don't have time right now" say "Ok, is there a better time to reach you when you have a few minutes to talk?" OR,Maybe ask them if you can send them info in an email ??? (never tried this because I just thought of it)

- If someone says "I'm happy with my products" in a nice way, suggest if it's OK to give them a call in a few months to check back Or, again, maybe ask them if you can add them to your email list to share special offerings, etc

- If someone is obviously annoyed by your calljust thank them for their time and end the call in a respectful manner

- If you're getting a bad batch of calls (call after call is unsuccessful) and it's affecting your attitude, take a little break to freshen up and renew your attitude

- I have found a good time to call is ~ 6:45 - 7:45 p.m. People seem to be finished with dinner by then and generally in a good mood (lol). I have tried calling between the hours of 4 - 5:30 p.m. and have noticed a lot of people don't have time and are a tad cranky--probably because they just got home from work and need to get ready for dinner! I have also tried calling earlier than 4 p.m but 99% of the time got an answering machine

- If the person wants the sample (or whatever else you're offerring) let them know you will be following up with a phone call in X number of days to check on them

For those of you who are pros at calling...If you get an answering machine, do you leave a message? If so, what do you say? I typically do not leave a message I guess because I don't want to burdon someone....I just try to call back at another time.

Please feel freetocomment onmy ideas, I'm open to improvement. Anyone have anything else to share?smileys/smiley1.gifEdited by: Mary_m
