Hello

I was considering making money from home making candles. I'm married, I have a 14 month old daughter and I'm currently expecting my second in july. I'm in a real bind and searching for work I can do from home. I was wondering, can you really make good money from home by making your owncandles?

I started my own business making/selling candles at home almost 2 years ago..... the first year is more spent then profit but if you get a good customer base and set a good price scale you can do rather well.

Ive been very lazy, add onto that moving every few years and with me its not a HUGE source of income, I work a few times a month, sometimes more sometimes less often depending on the size of the orders I get, and during xmas + wedding season and sometimes there are just surges in demand so i work more often.

good luck!!!

I just wanted to share a great business opportunity. I am bursting with excitement and decided I wanted to share this with everyone. If, you are like me and love to burn candles that smell wonderful. Go to my website www.miabellacandle.org and check this out you will be glad that you did. These candles are made of natural materials and burn soot free. They are tripled scented and double wicked. The scent is the same from the 1st time you light it up until the bottom of the jar. And should you accidentally knock it over on the carpet just clean up the spill with warm soap and water. Not something that you’re able to do with most candles.

If you or someone you know might be interested in becoming a distributor please let me know. You can do this full time or part time with no quotes to meet. The start up cost for a distributor is less than $50.00. This includes a website, provided by the company (online retail store included), 1-16 oz Candle, 12 Votives and a bar of soap. No quotes to meet!! I have never seen a business cost so little to get started.

There are 4 ways to earn money with this company Retail, Fundraising, Wholesale, and Residual. You can do home parties, craft shows, flea markets, swapmeets, etc. This means that you can start making money immediately.

My reason for joining was so that I could purchase the candles at wholesale. I would go to the Yankee candle shop in the mall and spend $50.00 buying 2 of their candles. So I thought to myself why not give this a try especially since there was no quote that I had to meet and the candles smells awesome and I actually like the smell better than Yankee. I was already spending the same amount for Yankee candles so it wasn’t costing me any more to try this and for the same money I got more candles. It was a win for me. As my friends came to my home and smelled the candles burning they asked where I got them. I then told them that I was a distributor and could order some for them. This led them having friends come to their home and repeating the same thing. The candles sell themselves and that is what is wonderful about being a part of this business. I am now doing fundraisers; craft shows and have businesses carrying these candles in their shop. I have gone from just wanting to buy candles at wholesale for myself to a local distributor in a matter of a few weeks. It's been wild. But I love every minute of it.

If would like to have some samples sent to youplease email me at www.scenteddream@yahoo.com (http://www.bellacandledream@yahoo.com/) with your mailing address and I would be happy to share this wonderful experience with you. Smelling is Believing!!! Thanks everyone. Take Care and God Bless Edited by: lacy335

Yuck! What's with advertising?

Here is my experience with my business.... I spent, spent, spent, spent, spent... and now I have levelled off and I am starting to bring in money. I am coming close to breaking even. I have been at it for three years, but the thing is - I didn't do much research before I started. I did a lot of trial and error - which cost me money on things I couldn't sell. I was keeping a lot of things in my basement, which I had to move because the moisture was ruining everything - so that was cost that I can't sell. Also, I haven't been very dillegent with my business. I work full time and go to school part time - so I squeeze in my business when I can. I spent a lot of money on a booth at Cape Cod Crafters that didn't earn me enough to even cover the cost of the booth. And I spent a lot on AdWords and didn't get any sales as a result of it...

So with that said, I do know that if you are willing to do your research, work hard and enjoy making candles - it can be fun and profitable!!

It is expensive to start but I'm sure once you get your client base started you'll eventually make money. I never made them to sell but I made them as a hobby. Good luck and I hope you find what your looking for.

Hi there,

I can tell you, it takes a lot of time and money like any traditional home business. I was making my own candles and selling them on ebay but ceased production after I became pregnant. The fumes from the FO's were just too much for me and I felt it wasn't good.

I would definitly do your research, keep asking around before you make the plunge. Keep in mind, it takes time and you will not profit right away. It all take time. :)

Good luck!

Jen nailed it.

I used to make soaps and lotions from home when I had just a 2 year old. After I had my 2nd, I had to stop for a while because making the products takes a LOT of time. Because you have to do EVERYthing yourself, and with a newborn and a toddler, it was just too much. Even after a year, they are more underfoot than ever.

Don't forget that you are dealing with HOT waxes, pouring, Fragrance Oils, and of course sometimes accidents.

It's actually why I started selling Mia Bella's, because someone else was doing the creating, labeling, packaging, etc. I could just sit back and offer the great product to people.

If it were ME, I would wait a while after the baby is born and then see if you have the time and energy. It takes a LOT of time and energy starting a new business, let alone one where you make the products yourself.

Good luck!!

Hi Jhanna,

Same reason why I decided to go with Marlo Quinn! For me, it's the convenience of not having to do "all the work" and just enjoy the sharing of what I have to offer and as soon as we open in July.. start enjoying it even more! smileys/smiley17.gifhee hee

Yuck! What's with advertising?

Here I thought this was a candle MAKERS forum. Tacky isn't it? smileys/smiley36.gif

Anyway, making candles is not cheap. It sounds easy enough, even though there is a lot of trial and error that goes along with it. My mom and I actually run our business together, and she does all the actual making of the candles. No way I would have done this alone! I started out with a dropshipper, but when she started selling to just a few direct sales companies I had to make a switch.

We are just into our 2nd year now - we started in May of 2005. Are we making money? Yup. Are we making a profit? Nope. Almost, but not quite. We've got a handful of local wholesellers and online dropshippers, plus we attend at least one craft show at month (more over the summer). It's taken a lot of time and hard work to get this far, and we wouldn't even be close to breaking even if there was just one. We still actively search for wholesellers and dropshippers, plus attend every show we can find, and book catalog shows and home shows when we can. It looks as though next month might be our first profit, should we get in last minute at another local show (would make three craft shows in July, plus the end of a catalog show). We just about broke even this month, but are still about $200 or so in the hole.

Anyway, be sure to do lots of research before jumping into this venture. If you are needing something desparately, I'm thinking you probably can't afford to be in debt for at least two years before ever seeing a profit. You may want to look into selling candles either as a rep for a company, or as a dropshipper or wholeseller.

Good luck and I hope you find what you are looking for! smileys/smiley4.gif
