I have to visit the beach at least once a year!!
We love to camp and hike a few times!
Go Karts!
Laying by the pool!! (with a 30 s.p.f. on of course!smileys/smiley1.gif)</font>
We try to visit the Zoo at least once in the summer!
We usually get season passes to the local amusment park!
But most of all I just love not being stuck in the house -- having friends over and grilling out!

For me - watcing TV and doing absolutly nothing (something I rarely get to do during the year) and making quilts.
The kids enjoy participating in a summer reading program at the local
library, going outdoors and getting sprayed with the hose, making ice
cream, going to the pool, renting lots of movies, blowing bubbles,
visiting with friends, etxc.

Our family gets out on the boat every summer fortrips tothe beach, fishing or just cruising around, we have a fewfavorite restaurants and destinations with parks to checkout.
Then there's always thevisits tofriends with pools for the usual backyard gatherings andwe bring the pitcher of "Long Island Iced Teas" to share.smileys/smiley2.gif
We also plan one big camping trip or getaway with over a dozen friends and their kids to someplace away from Long Island, usually the Catskills or Poconos, where we can do some hiking, festivalor kid activity like a theme park.
Just kicked off Memorial Day weekend with a stock car adventure at Pocono raceway!!! Should be a great summer this year--no potty training this time-whew!
Wish all the wahms here a fun summer too!!

Well that's not too tough where I live! Sunny Malta! Me and my family spend every day during the day at the beach. The kids just love it, and we have enough beaches to keep everyone happy. That's during the day......
In the evening, we eat out every day by the waters edge since we live on a small islad and everywhere is accessible! That keeps everybody fresh and happy! smileys/smiley2.gif

My family and I go on our annual vacation for one week in July and then the following month my husband takes me somewhere (I never know) for a week for our anniversary/my birthday. My birthday is Aug 2 and anniversary Aug 3.
Also, my mom stays with us one for one month so I do not cook (whew!!) and she, my daughterand I go driving around, shopping, garage sales, etc. It is fun. Edited by: sue311

Summer is the time for bar b que's and socialising late into the night. You cannot do this in England any other time as the weather does not permit it. If we even suggest the idea of having a bar b que my seven year old girl always says 'can we invite someone?' A proper little socialite in the making.

My favorite summertime activity used to be going to the beach. But, now that I am back in Georgia I am not able to do so.
So, I guess it would be buying the slip n slide and the pool and setting it up in the backyard with the kids. And, I may invite a few people over for a barbecue sometime

I grew up on the water, so a full day at the beach is heaven to me. Get to the beach at about 8 AM so yuo can claim a great spot. Set up everything. Spend the first hour or two alternating between reading a good book and snoozing behind that same book. smileys/smiley36.gif Of course, there has to be swimming, volleyball, and chicken fights.

I LOVE to go to the beach (which is 20 minutes away..YAY). Backyard cook out parties we have them almost every weekend. It is fun the adults just sit and relax and the kids run around our yard. We are the only people with a big back yard so it is always at our place. Which I don't mind because then we don't have to drive anyplace.

Now that the flock has "flown": daily early morning walks with whoever is around to accompany me, then back home for a refreshing shower, tall glass of iced coffee, and a good book. Naps...mmm...never get enough of them with kids around.
Before the flock flew, it was as many trips to the lake as we could pack into a week. Barbeques, and sleeping outside at night. It was so magical to wake up at 2am and get to wake up the kids to watch the Northern Lights together, lying in our sleeping bags.

My favorite summertime activity is camping. It's the only time of the year that we see my brother and his family as well as it gets the whole family together for an outing. It's neat to see how our kids have changed over the past year as well as the changes in the family. Next year will be bigger than this year as my brother is expecting his 6th child!
Can't wait til next year's event.
Outside of that, it's keeping cool and spending what's left of the summer with my family. We night fish many times a week.

Hi
My Best time in the summer is just having all the children home from school and around me all day to laugh and play and discipline as well.
But I am sad when they have to go back to school.
We all are taken away for great trips by my husband to Bar Harbour.
Other family members are invited as our guests as well and this makes us all happy..

I have just returned from holidays-sailing along the Adriatic coast. Croatian coast is one of the most beautifuf place for sailing because of many islands, clean sea, all kind of winds.....you can jump into the sea without fear....Well this year there were some jellyfish in some spots. My husband got it on his face and arm and I can tell you it is not pleasant.

Me and the kids love swimming, either in a pool or the beach or in a dam. My husband doesn't like the water but he likes lying in the sun. So we all enjoy the outing. I'm ussaully in the water with the kids while he is lying a good way off in the sun.
We have found warm waters not too far from home, so we travel there and then he actually swim as well

Take our kids to different natural environment places where we can explore, camp, hike, swim and snorkel. Plus we visit my parent's second home in Pocono, PA. And visit my wife's close friend's family second home in Clear Lake, IN where we really relax.

Hi,
Well My favorite Summer Time Activity this year is very different
from the many past years experiences.
This year I have had a lot of daily looking after my grand-children
which are 4 Boys under 5with 2 are in diapers.
{This activity starts around 7:30 AM until after 7:00 PM
then guess who is tired and needs to work a lot in the Computer??}
So between their naps and meals , we blow bubbles and the little ones like to see how many they can touch ..
There is lots of laughter and number counting in this excersice.
then they play HIDE_AND_SEEK.Does this just sounds similar
to many of your activites, I bet it does!
Have Fun, whether in doors or out doors.

Going to the beach/pool is the best. My family loves amusement parks and this year we went to Dollywood, Hershey Park and Kings Dominion. My husband also races dirt bikes in the summer so it's fun to go and cheer him on. Besides he looks soooooo good in his racing outfit! smileys/smiley17.gif

Another thing I like to do in the summer, when possible is to attend a camp meeting just to have fun with the young people, although I am 60, I love to play volleyball with a bunch of young people that like sports like I do. It is always challenging to me to be arround them because it helps me to stay fit.

The summer is soon over, but we still have the weekends to join and we hopefully do something fun then. smileys/smiley17.gif Love to go metal detecting. My husband and I always find things every time we go out. The lakes we have found jewlry and coins and OLD lures. On the beaches, there are so many good finds. Lots of coins and jewlry. Best find was a gold nugget in Reno on a ballpark field near the river. Never a dull time and always fun and relaxing.
Kids love to do this too. My grandson was given his first dedector at age 5, from Radio Shack, not very expensive, and he found an old silver dollar from 1900, in his own back yard in California. And he continues to hunt for fun.Family outings to parks, picnics always is a good time.

BBQ, I love to smoke brisket, ribs, chicken, corn...Smores.... I love to go to outdoor festivals, ride horses, prune my roses, yard work.
Okay maybe my favorite is to ride a horse down the road, or in the mountains.
This is a hard question since the only thing I like about winter is snuggling and Christmas. I long for the long hot lazy days of bees buzzing and sipping cold drinks. That's why my favorite color is green.smileys/smiley17.gif

Summer is my favorite month and not just because I was born in the summer. It's fantastic. I can go to the beach, hang outdoors, take the kids on road trips, and have lazy days of relaxation. I'm living up in NY right now, but I'm a southern gal by birth and nature, so the cold, frozen winters are hard ona gal like me. Right now my fingertips are ice and I'm mean enough to try to warm them up on my family every time I can sneak up on them. Heh, heh, heh. Hey! That's what hubby gets for not wanting me to turn the heat up too high. Brrrr!

I don't have a fave season as when its winter I start getting antsy for the summer and vice versa. But some of my fave things to do during the summer are take kids to the park, and you may think this is goofy but watching them chase eachother in the yard with the garden hose or water balloons. I love to swim and play hacky sac. But being in Houston we have hot weather almost all year round.

LIfe has changed so much for us now that we're chronologically gifted. MY daughter has grown up and is getting engaged soon.
My favorite summer sctivity is going up to VErmont and hiking in the mountains. I thnk it's one of the most beautiful places on Earth.
We always stay at the TRAPP FAMILY LODGE in Stowe. You know the sound of music family? The rooms are so beautiful the food is delicous and huge portions and the trails are wonderful.
I love Vermont and hope to retire there. Course my husband is voting for MYrtle Beach. He's a golfer. LOL

Living at the Jersey Shore I have no other choice but to hang at the beach. I take the kids (6, 12 and my non biological children<friends> 14,16, 17 ) to the beach and they hang out between the flags, whileI go to the jetty and fish. I can still see them being only 15ft away, yet they get their play time and I get mine !!smileys/smiley15.gif

It's summer all year round in Singapore. The hottest months are May to August. My friend from New Zealand who visited me in the middle of the year said it waslike sauna when under the hot sun, ha, ha. I prefer to go ourin the mornings and evenings when it's not so hot. If need to go out in the afternoon, I will walk under sheltered walkways or goinside airconditioned places. Our public transport - train, buses, cabs areairconditioned. When it rains, it will be cooler.

We moved to midwest in Nov from S FL - right on the Atlantic...will DEFINATELY miss the beach this summer!!!
Although my 9 year old came home from school all excited (he's a surfer) because some kids in school told him there is a beach here! We had to explain THEIR version of the beach is some sand and a lake and a little different than what he is used too! LOL
We are planning to head home for a week or so and then go with some friends over to Atlantis ...so that will be nice!

I think my wife would like me to say that it's looking at her in her bathing suit!!
And while that still, and always will be a GREAT summertime activity, I gotta say it's really just spending time with all my family.
I coach my son's baseball team, and it's so much fun watcking these kids grow from year to year. Growing physically, growing skillfully, and growing confidently.
There's no greater feeling in the world, then having a kid making a great play, walking off the field, to a rousing ovation from the crowd.
There's no worse feeling, than having the bases loaded, 2 outs, and your down by 2 runs. One hit will score 2 runners, to tie the game. But today, it just wasn't meant to be. You take the third strike at your knees, it looked low to you coming from the mound, but the umpire yells STRIKE THREE!!
The other team jumps for joy, as they earned this win, but as you line up to shake hands, you can't help but feel horrible for the kid who struck out. All you can do is tell him to hang in there, and he'll get another shot down the road.
Well, as you may guess, two weeks go by, and the same situation comes up. Same team, same scenario, and you know what happens right?
Yep, a sharp line drive over the 1st baseman's head that just keeps rolling, right by the right fielder. All three runners on base score, and your team wins!!!
So, the kid who thought he let his team down before, now is the hero, because he had experienced what he thought was failure, learned from it, and next chance he got delivered!!
There's no such thing as failure, as long as you never quit!!
Thanks alot,
Tom

I absolutely have to go stay at the Mirage in vegas for a few days. I fell in love with the place since it opened in 1989. I really enjoy the pool, which saves me money by staying out of the casino most of the day. I've seen all of the other hotels and what they have to offer, but the Mirage does it for me. I also love the beach, and go as often as possible.

Hello to everybody,
In summertime I have a problem. Since I live in a blessed country I am anxiously to take my vacation because working during summertime it is not the best idea. So when I am in vacations starts the summer.
Now what I am doing? The first days I am relaxing doing nothing. Then I start going to swim. Sea activities are the most interesting during hot weather. At nights during the supper it is the time to play some music and sing with our friends near the sea.
That is about what I am doing usually during summertime.
This is my first effort to take place in a forum and I feel likehaving a kind of exams and since I am foreigner and I don't know so wellEnglish make this first effort a little difficult.
That's for today.

I also think of summer as reading time. My dd is 12, andwe like to read the same book and discuss it. Books are better when read from a hammock in the shade.

We live right by Lake Erie here in Ohio, and I mean RIGHT by Lake Erie, the beach is at the end of our street. Every night the minute my hubby walks in the door the kids all crowd around him yelling Oompa, can we go to the beach, Oompa can we go to the beach........they never ask me, LOL, the beach is Oompa's thing. Not that I wouldn't like to go, but I am with them all day and he adores spending time with them alone too. So he heads off down the street, usually with one on his shoulders and the other two riding bikes and their little motor cars down the road.
We have a nice screened in porch off the back of the house, nothing fancy, just built of wood with simple screens. And we have a HUGE elm tree in the backyard, it shades the entire yard and makes that back porch the best place to be on a hot day, it always has a breeze. Soon as they head out I grab whatever book I am currently reading and head out there while dinner finishes cooking (the porch is right off the kitchen so it makes it easy to keep an eye on dinner). I sit on a comfy couch I have out there and just enjoy my book for a bit. BEST hour of my day! LOL

Swim, swim, swim. We go to Dollywood's Splash Country often. We have passes and live only about 30 minutes away.

AHHHH! I grew up at the Jersey shore and absolutely love it. Where do you go each summer? I lived and worked on the boardwalk in Ocean City, NJ one summer and have the best memories. I grew up in Monmouth Beach and SeaBright but went to so many of the great beach towns all along the shore in HS and college. Stone Harbor, Elberon, Margate and so many others. Where do you go? I would love to hear.
Enjoy!

Maryann,
I was born in PHL and grew up about 10 miles outside the cityand, as you know, to this day a majority of Philadelphians live for their weekends and vacations at the Jersey shore. When I wasyounger we stayed exclusively in Wildwood. Laterin my20'sI started renting places with my friends from Ventnor all the way south to Wildwood. Those memories are the best. I have lived on the west coast since 1981; met& married my husband here andhave 2 teenage children. And even though there is this California beach image out there, I made sure that my kids have the same memories of the Jersey shore because the west coast beaches (especially in northern CA where we live) can't compare to the Jersey shore.
Where do you live now?
Maria

I live in New Mexico and my grandkids live in California. Every summer I get to have them for two weeks in August. It's coming soon, and I can hardly wait. My favorite activity is whatever they want to do.http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley17.gif

Where in California do your grandkids live? I am in Northern CA, Marin County to be exact. Coming from the East Coast, these beaches just can't compare. I find the water too cold; and most days it's just too foggy to even consider getting in a bathing suit. However, I have twin niece and nephew and I would be happy doing anything they would want....even going to a very cold beach!
How did you spend your4th?

LOL You're a good aunt.
My kids live in Oxnard, so they're close to the beach also. However, So. Ca ispretty warm and they do enjoy it.
Just relaxing today. I'm not fond of fireworks. Guess I'm getting old. http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif

No ur not getting old....think of it this way....how many firework displays can u watch before that all start to look alike? LOL
It's an unusally clear and warm day here. If we wanted to drive into San Francisco we could watch the best display in the area b/c there's no fog...but rather than fight the crowds and traffic we're thinking of going to a movie!
Checked out ur site....do you make all of that jewelry yourself?

Yep. I love anything that sparkles. Crystals and pearls are perfect. Actually the pearls are Swarovski crystal.
I'm with you on the traffic. That's one reason we left So Ca. http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley32.gif
So we're just going hang out here at home.

Hi Maria,
I live in Washington state now. It's really ironic that I live in a section of the country that has beaches that are not meant for swimming or sitting on the beach for very long. It's usually pretty windy on the water is ice cold, for me anyway. The beaches here have high rocky cliffs and are usually filled with stones and rocks instead of the fine sand you find in Jersey. We love to take walks on the beaches here but it's not the same as setting up your chair for the day of sun, reading and water play. I still took my daughters to the Jersey shore for the beach experience when they were younger.
We are fortunate, however, that we live on the Puget Sound. We live outside of Seattle so we can always go to the beach there or on any of the lakes. We also have a weekend home in the San Juans which is north of Seattle. We can go to the beach there but somehow, it's still not like the Jersey shore with the boardwalks and rides, etc. That's ok because I can still go back there each summer for a taste of the beach life. I never leave Jersey without a trip to the beach.
Since we have lived here, 14 years, we have been extremely fortunate in that we have been to Hawaii at least every year. Still no comparison to the Jersey shore but I have nothing to complain about because Hawaii is paradise. Although I'll never find the beach/boardwalk combination, discovering the beaches of the US has been most enlightening. I now know that I was so lucky to grow up where I did and experience the beach and shore.
Would love to share some memories of all the shore sights. How are the beaches where you are? Have you found a Jersey shore replacement yet?
