Maryann,
No, no, I have not found a Jersey shore replacement because I believe there isno replacement... anywhere.
Yes, I have been to Hawaii....beautiful but the ocean can be a bit rough. I love the Caribbean, so tropical, but again, the ocean can be rough. And, of course there is California beaches. Well, I live in Northern California where we get the Alaskan gulf stream so our water never gets above 55 degrees. Some beaches have sand others are all rock. I'velived inCaliforniafor 26 years and I've been to the beach twice....and I AM A BEACH LOVER!! Too cold and why bother to go to the beach if it's foggy, windy and the water is freezing!
No, there'sno place like the Jersey shore. I even love the smell when crossing over thebay onto what ever islandI'm was staying.Every now an then I catch a whiff of that smell here anditimmediately takes me back to driving down Rio Grande Ave. into Wildwood. Or the 9th St. bridge into Ocean City.
What about the seafood? It's becomea ritual for us to have dinner on the dock at the Lobster House in Cape May at least upon arrival and thenite before we headwest.
You know, most people around here have heard me talk about the Jersey shore and they think I'm crazy. Why would anyone want to go to a beach in New Jersey when you live in California? But a few of my friends have visited with me and have finally validated how wonderful the New Jersey shoreline can be.
Well, now I'm homesick. All this chatting about summers at the shore. Here's something that may bring a smile to your face...I knew I probably wasn't heading east this summer which means I wouldn't have my great tan so rather than give up everything that up, Istarted going to a tanning salon. Not the same as being on the beach in 95 degree temperature and bringing your chair up to the water and having the waves jump into your lap but when I see myself in the mirror I look like I've been on the beach!
Whendo you plan to head back for some beach time?

Sher, I'm so embarrassed! I had two conversation screens open at the same time. Please accept my apology.
Before I moved to California, I was a meeting planner. When I arrived here and met my husband who is a contractor, I started working for him as his office manager, then kids came along and I found myself with 2 jobs -- stay at home mom and still working with my husband. I started volunteering at my kids school and found I could put my organizational skills to good use as well as expand my social scene. Eventually I became the middle school PTA president. Now that my son is off to college in the fall and my daughter is in her las year at high school I decided it was time to try somethingdifferent. That's when I discovered the power of the internet as away to jump intomy very ownbusiness.

My favorite summertime activity is going fishing and enjoying being in the boat. It really doesn't matter if I catch anything or not, it's just being out there.I love camping and the outdoors. http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif

Hi Maria,
I live in the mountains of Maine. People who live in Maine say that there are two Maines. One that's near the coast and then the rest of the state. The mountains are very beautiful.Where we live it's very rural, about 30 minutes from the nearest store and about hour from a good craft store. Two hours from any serious shopping!
I've been cross stitching for almost 20 years. Been designing for about 16.
17 years ago I got very sick with a virus that damaged my nervious system. The only craft I could do was cross stitching. I could work on it while in bed and it didn't take a lot of energy. I grew to love it. Now that I'm doing a whole lot better, I still stitch quite a bit.
Thanks so much for asking! and thanks for forwarding my link to your friend.

This question is difficult to answer especially when you have almost the whole year summer. O.k. you have the 4 seasons, but we have the year round warm. So it's difficult to answer that particular question.
The days the weather is nice, I like to sit in the garden and read a good book and get a sun bath. In the morning when the kids come I like to spend the most time with them, cycling, going to the play ground and see them happy playing and laughing. On vacation I like to be the most time with my grand kids this is the best summer time activity for me.

What is my favorite activity? Hmmmm I like sleeping, don't get much of that lately. I like swimming, not doing much of that either, and let's see, I like to eat, been doing too much of that lately. Luckily, I do run 4.5 miles everyday. I guess my favorite activity is just having fun, of course not doing too much of that either, but one can hope!

Well I know summer is pretty much over for most kids, but I'll jsut sahre my favorite activity from this summer. It has to be star gazing! We watched satellites when we were camping, and then last week we drove out to the countryside to sit out and view the perseid meteor shower. We took the cover off our truck and put some blankets in the bed. It was an awesome shower this year, my son who is 5 said watching the meteors it felt like a dream. I feel the same. That might just be because we were out there in the middle of the night until early morning! What a great way to end the summer break.
I'm really looking forward to the Geminid(?) meteor shower in December during Winter break! :)

One of my other favorite activities is being lazy; doing nothing but laying back watching a movie or some television show. It gets so hot here in Alabama, that it is just too hot to do anything. I don't have a swimming pool in my backyard and the beach is too far to drive to daily; so staying in an air-conditioned home is something I enjoy during the summertime.

Summer is just not summer without a week long trip to my grandparents cabin in Harrisville, Michigan. It's located right on Lake Huron and it's the best place on earth. From the first sight of the lake to the smell of the pine trees to the coziness of the cabin no one ever wants to leave. Unless it's raining, then sometimes not, you are always outside playing, swimming or just soaking up some rays. The chipmunks are so friendly they will come right up to youand take a peanut or two right from your hand. Thenat night it's dinner cooked outside on the fireplace and some smores to complete the meal.Night comes, the fires raging and the stars are just beautiful. With your family at your side, a drink in yourhand, and good stories being toldlife is a little less crazy for just a moment.

I miss eating ripe watermelons and having rind fights, gardening by growing tomatoes, herbs, peppers, green beans, then canning them.
I miss picking strawberries on peoples farms, laying in the grass on a nice not too hot summer day, just watching clouds, the smells of summer, honeysuckle. Just seems to me more things are alive in the summer and more to do.

I love taking the grandkids to our property in the country. We usually spend at least one night and sometimes 2. We usually start out fishing catching brim. The pond is overstocked with them. Grandkids are 3 & 4 years old. Then they play in the water for a hour or so. Then while they are playing on the swing or riding their bikes, I get a fire started so we can roast wiennies. After eating we take a walk down the trails looking for deer, hog and turkey tracks. Then playing in the water again. Then after 2 days send them back home to mom and dad. Nothing like summer

As soon as it is warm enough we drive to the Poconos for White water rafting. Try to do it early in the season before the water gets rough and it is great fun for the entire family. 3-4 hour trip with a half hour stop for picnicing. We are soaking wet and exhausted from non stop laughter and fun.

I love going to any kind of lake or body of water.... here in Minnesota, there is no ocean which would be my ultimate... however, I try to make at least one trip up the highly to Duluth and the North Shore of Lake Superior, which is of course so big that you cannot see across it, and there are actual ships that travel on it.
When the wind is really going, the waves crashing into shore are as big as ocean waves, and it's beautiful, peaceful, peaceful and rejuvenating to me!

Evening walks, swimming, being by a lake or river, gardening, and just being able to go outside in sandals and shorts, without layers of clothing...

A few summer activities are watching my kids play in the big inflatable slide/pool we got them. Also love taking them to the playgrounds and walks. Last but not least is my father has a house 5 rows off the beach that he rents out during the summer time, but if a week or two is open we head down there or we wait until the end of the busy rental period (September). That will be harder now that my oldest daughter is going to go to school this year.
If anyone wants to vacation to hilton head island, sc send me a PM and I will send you the link to the beach house website to see all the pictures. I usually answer the emails about rental rates and availability.

Going to the beach on a weekday is liberating. You could also do some country tours. But being at home really spells SUMMER. ;)

I like boating and camping.
Just sitting out in the sun as much as possible is a great summer activity. The cold winter months can be depressing.
