Hi Everyone!
Has anyone taken the transcription tests for Medquist? This is my second attempt, and would like to know if anyone else had difficulty transcribing the dictation?
I am a recent MT graduate and this test really threw me the first time...the first physician is speaking so fast that I used a secondary software to slow down her voice (of course in doing so, the speech becomes low and just as difficult to understand).
I am interested to hear if anyone else has had the same or similar experience in MT testing for hiring...I know that dictation can be difficult at times to discern, however this seems way above what is common.

I have no knowledge of Medquist in particular. However, in general, transcription companies often provide difficult test audios featuring speedy talkers or speakers with accents. Knowing how to use different audio players to clean up scratchy audio or to slow down the dictation are skills that we all need to have in order to succeed in this business.

What secondary software did you use?

I use Universal Start-Stop Transcription software and their pedal. Is there another software type that may be easier to understand when slowed down?

There certainly are other players, Start-Stop Universal being one of the most expensive. I find slowing down audio in it helps me in many situations. The other players I use or have used include Express Scribe, The Record Player, FTW Transcriber, and Transcription Buddy. No one player is perfect for all situations.

I understand where you're coming from and I've found using For the Record or FTW to slow it down as much as I can helps a lot.
