View Full Version : Figure 8 Shake Mixes...

I am doing the Figure 8 plan and I am having some problems with the chocolate mix. I have tried different recipes on the Figure 8 site, but I can't seem to get rid of that chalky after taste and I am having problems keeping it down.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to make it taste better? Any other recipes besides what is on the Figure 8 site?

The orange I really like - I have been mxing it with Dole orange/straw/banana juice, a frozen banana and some ice cubes, then blending it all in my smoothie maker - it is excellent and I don't have any after taste. I don't even know the mix is in there!

Hey there~

This is what I do for the chocolate shake almost every morning and I LOVE it!!

a cup of milk (I also freeze some milk in ice cube trays so that the consistency is more shake-like)

1-2 TBS of natural peanut butter

1 frozen banana

half-1 scoop chocolate shake mix

Blend it up :D

I am not sure what you have tried, but cindi's sounds great! I notice it is much better when you use ice or something frozen to make sure it is shake like and REALLY cold. A banana makes a big difference to. I also mix the chocolate with the vanilla and think it tastes better that way.

Mine is similar to Cindi's...

8oz of Skim Milk + Ice Chips + Banana (I don't even freeze it) + 1 scoop shake mix THEN BLEND in blender

The notion of shaking it in a cup of water is beyond me -- that made me literally gag the first time I did that! I thought, "Well, THIS is how everyone loses weight on it...you can't keep it down!" smileys/smiley36.gif It then took me 7 months to try it once again, this time tweaking it and gathering ideas from the website. Now? LOVE THEM!

I find that I need to add more liquid to the orange -- I do it w/ 8 oz of water...then I end up adding more water as I near the end of the cup. I think if you add more skim milk to the shake, it'll kill that chalky aftertaste w/o adding too many calories.

So far I've lost 10 pounds on it (and I have hypothyroidism -- some say you can't lose weight on this if you have that...not so, it DOES work) and my SIL lost 10 the first two weeks she was on it (she only needed to lose 7 total and ended up losing the extra 3!). The shakes are great...you just have to experiment on how you make them. I think Cindi's idea of freezing milk isterrific!!! smileys/smiley32.gif

I'll also give advice on what NOT to try (well, imo anyway) I addedfrozen blackberriesto it...I took 1 sip and threw it out. Talk about chalky aftertaste...I had that + seeds...and the color? BLECH! smileys/smiley11.gif

Take care, Sarah

Arbonne2005 - I have hypothryoidism as well, so that is reassuring! I had never even thought about freezing the milk, so I will definitely try that.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions - I will start trying these tomorrow. I love peanut butter, so that one won't be a problem!

Cassandra - I have trouble digesting the vanilla too. I was thinking about putting in maybe a teaspoon of vanilla with it?

Wow, I'm gladfightingfatigueposted about this!! I too have trouble with the chocolate shake (this is the only one I've purchased so far). It's been sitting in my pantry for almost 3 months now. I don't have a blender or anything so I think the shake up cupis what did it for me. I couldn't stomach it. I used Skim milk anda banana. It was just too thick for me!!! I have a problem drinking shakes period, I can never get to the bottom of one. It seems the bottom is too thick and I can't stomach it.

I guess I need to buy a blender this weekend and maybe I'll pull out the shake again.

I really like the chai latte, it is my favorite, and my biggest
seller. I haven't tried the orange or the chocolate though.smileys/smiley36.gif<!--

This is what I did for lunch - I took one cup of lowfat chocolate milk, 1/2 scoop chocolate shake mix, 1 T. peanut butter, 4 ice cubes. I blended them in my smoothie maker/blender and it turned out delicious. I didn't notice any after taste, or chalky taste at all.

I tried that, not to keen on it that way either.smileys/smiley36.gif PB in it sounds pretty good, we have a peanut free house though, so I need other options. Anyone?

I have put a little drop of peppermint extract in my chocolate shake...if you like chocolate-mint flavor, it is pretty yummy!

I have another friend who puts some low -fat or sugar sugar-free chocolate syrup in it.

Is that really in support of weight loss? smileys/smiley2.gif

It is important that you get the sugar free kind for it to work. If you get the regualr syrup, it is so full of sugar that it will defeat the whole purpose.

I bought the sugar free syrup. I would think if someone only used maybe a teaspoon of the regular kind it wouldn't make that big of a difference.
