Hey everyone!

I'm with Taste of Home Entertaining and I have a question to everyone out there that has a catalog and does presentations at homes...

Do you typically pass your catalog out BEFORE your presentations or do your pass them out AFTER your presentation? At my last three parties, I've passed them out before, but it feels like everyone is so busy shopping that I they're not listening! smileys/smiley5.gif What do you think works best? I think my biggest fear about passing them out after is that then everyone will be staring at me! smileys/smiley9.gif Any ideas?

Hi there -

I have always passed them out in advance in whatever biz I was in and still do now when I do parties - but then I have a wish list and a personal profile - so when it's time to start the party - depending on what kind of party - I either have them put everything away other than the wish list or the skin care profile

That seems to work - and I don't ask them to look at anything in the catalog till the very end - I will give them pages to write down on the wish list - so they can reference it when the show part of the party is done -

I'm new to the biz, but I handed out my catalogs part-way through. I talked about myself, the company, briefly about the biz op and hosting, and then I handed out the catalogs and showed off some items. I thought it worked out well because I had their full attention at the beginning when I needed it, and then they were sort of half listening when I was talking about products. It didn't matter at that point because I was passing around samples and they speak for themselves.

I pass them out at the beginning so that they are at least looking at my catalog, rather than chit chatting and it's easier to get the party started.

After my intro, I'll say, "If you'll all turn to page 66, you'll see our basket collections..." Then I lead them through a few things in the catalog, each time, telling them what page to turn to. I usually have things to show them in person while I'm showing them the catalog.

Make sense? It works for me in this business, but wouldn't have worked when I was doing wine tasting.

Good luck!

I have done both and I'm not sure yet what works better.

I have done what Christy does and it works really well for me. I introduce myself, thank them, thank the hostess, tell them my "why" then I hand out just the catalogs and a pen. I have them write their name on the front, then I have them turn to specific page numbers and follow along with me as I am talking about the company and the products (and encourage them to be marking/making notes in the catalog as we go). When I am done, I hand out the paperwork packets and we move on to our spa treatments. It seems to flow well.

I think I might pass them out half way through like Christy and Carrie mentioned. For my first three parties I passed them out first, and then after I posted this question, I went to a party this afternoon and decided to pass them out last, but the part I hated was that I couldn't tell them to flip to the hostess rewards page or to the consultant's kit page.I DID like that I had them fill out the Customer Care Cardfirst and took those up before passing out catalogs. That was a plus. So, I feel like I lost out on that part. So, I LOVE the idea about passing it out half way through... maybe I'll pass out customer care cards, talk about the biz and pass out catalogs as I pick up CCCs. Thanks for everyone's help!

I pass mine out toward the end.. I pass around our food and tableware packaging as I talk so they can look at it, read it, etc.. Toward the end I pass out catalogs, walk them through the layout while I highlight a few items that they won't see or sample on the buffet, and then they go over and eat! It works well this way!

I always pass them out ahead of time.. I usually play a game where they have to get up.. so they put the book down and forget about it.. But I do give it to them in the begining.. It always seems to take awhile to get started.. and This way they arn't bored. :)
